Pirates Of The Caribbean- Flying Dutchman?

Wed May 30, 2007 3:14 pm

In the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, there is a ship called The Flying Dutchman. However, this phrase is on the back of all KLM aircraft.

So, is this just a very popular phrase, or does KLM own it and get royalties from the movie?

The Flying Dutchman is a very old legend:

Richard Wagner wrote an opera called "The Flying Dutchman", based on the legend, and since it was written before aircraft were invented, I can't see how KLM could have a lien on it.

I guess KLM could have registered the name for their airline purposes, but only as a trade mark or trade name.
