YV Into CPR?

Fri Jun 01, 2007 7:36 am

Maybe I missed something but when did YV start providing connection service for UA out of DEN? SkyWest has always run these routes with the EMB-120's but when I was booking travel for July, I noticed Dash 8's were slated, operated by Mesa.

Did UA switch Regionals? Has this already happened or in process?

Again, sorry if I missed an earlier announcement.

If I'm not mistaken, YV has been flying Dashes again for UA out of DEN for a couple years now at least.
I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.

Hmmm.... How do they determine which carrier gets which routes? Do they bid? I have always been on SkyWest into CPR.

I think its just an aircraft utilization issue. UA knows what routes they want the props on, and uses OO and YV accordingly. Also YV and OO charge different amounts. When I was at YV I heard that UA had a good deal going with us for the dash that we operate out of DEN. We had a maintenance/ crew base up in GJT as well, so it seemed convenient for mesa to partner with UA. More or less, I think YV lost dash flying at HP. and a few years ago stuck a deal with UA for the flights out of DEN at a good price. If not that then Im sure UA offered more for the dash flying than what HP was paying John. I know that Mesa was in the mindset for a long time that the West coast operating for HP was going to go all -900 (which it never has). In-fact a few years ago- Mesa was flying a lot of -700s out of DEN on behalf of UAX.

oo is closing the den emb base/operations, moving all to California and the northwest. the RAP airport is crazy excited because of the perpetual weight issues in the summer.
So like rap, dash-8's for CPR too

How much different are the weight issues between the 120's and the Dash's?

I would take a Dash over a Brasilia any day because the Dash's have much better W&B and are less likely to have hot and high W&B issues. To me it appears that the Dash's are picking up the Brasilia routes but others are being switched over to CRJ's. I for one am very happy that DRO is getting three jets (CRJ-200) a day six days a week and a fourth jet (CRJ-700) on Saturday's. I actually wonder how long it would be before the Dash's leave DEN and makes DEN an all jet city.

That would be economic suicide.

CPR will go from 6 x E120 to 5 x Dash 8-100 starting on June 8th. As stated, OO is closing the DEN EMB base! Why CPR is not going to get at least 1 jet with the yields in that market is beyond me!

You somehow messed up the quotes, I didn't say that stuff, but since in the process you didn't make me look like a dumb  butthead  I'll let it slide this time.  Wink

I hope not anytime soon. The Mesa Dash's are are great for low cost, reliable high frequencies into key Colorado markets markets like ASE, GJT and DRO when it would not be suffcient to assign Rjs as "schedule filler" flights. The Dashes are great for secondary UAX markets out of DEN like GUC too where a jet would probably be more than suffiecient and un economical for the size of the market, especially during the off ski season.

Actually RAP 's UAX schedules for the DEN route will feature five OO CRJ-200 flights and two YV Dash-8 flights. Dont forget all Dash-8s for MTJ too starting June 8th.
