A380 First Landing At De Gaulle Airport [video]

Fri Jun 01, 2007 8:29 pm

The A380 landed safely with a nice weather at CDG airport some minutes ago. A good TV news video could be seen at http://tf1.lci.fr/infos/economie/0,,...age-reussi-roissy-pour-a380-.html# (click on the "Plein Ecran" button for a full screen image).  Smile

Any Concorde landing was a sight to see. Everywhere in the world they went, the whilte ladies turned many people's heads. Concorde was the Queen of the Skies.

An A380 landing is a non-event.

Very nice landing !

Actually, I was surprised by the knowledge of the TV journalist (according to some specific aviation terms he used). He really knows what is talking about !

Thanks for sharing

A 2nd video is now available: the A380 "water salute" by the fire trucks and the gathering local attendance (it was lunch time here at CDG airport  Wink )

(FYI the gentleman on the right answering the question is the French Singapore Airlines spokeman...)

Get it at http://tf1.lci.fr/infos/economie/0,,...2664,00-bapteme-a380-roissy-.html#

In India the A380 is called The Gentle Giant, extremely quiet in cabin and when landing/take-off.

I have to agree (watching video´s of this beauty)

Sorry, the comments are simply stupid. Even though the commentator knows what a short final and reverser is, it is still very childish. He comments the landing as if it was still a dangerous maneuver with an unproven prototype... Which would be kind of worrying, as it is supposed to fly passengers in a few months now.

On the second video with the water salute, he interviews the SQ representative, asking him how SQ was lucky enough to get the first airframe, "especially since so many competitors are fighting to get it"  butthead

He might know a thing or 2 about aircrafts, this is still typical sensationalist aviation journalism to me.

Does the A380 only use the inboard reversers for landing? Are the outer engines capable of reverse?

Why did Airbus take so long to bring the A380 to CDG? I would've thought it would be the first place it would go.... And was it a "kiss" landing? I couldn't tell exactly...

I guess there was no economic reason to, since its been to the other airport.

In nowadays safety hysteria, you can seldom experienced a kiss landing on an airliner. Pilots are asked to smack the plane on the runway, ensuring that no rebond may occur with potential tripping out. The consequence is that passengers are thrown a bit forward.
A kiss landing on the contrary, is a gentle tangenting of the planet during which you hardly notice the transition between flying and rolling.
Another forbidden exercise is the 3-point landing, where the 3 undercarriages touch the ground at the same time. It is anyway quite difficult, I think, with modern airliners (Aaah, give me a DC-4).

Was the wind blowing hard or something? This is the third "wavy-gravy" A380 landing I've seen, and with a previous hard landing in wind at FRA, IIRC (enough to knock the O2 masks out) and a bit of fish-tail at LAX, it just seems a bit surprising.

Nice video, though I wish they had not cut it up.

Couldn't agree more. Throw in a few buzz words picked-up on A.net and suddenly your an expert (that goes for most of us here  biggrin  ).

Even worse, the guy is bold enough to say that since SQ will get the first 4 A380s, the 1st one delivered in Oct., Airbus is therefore "true to its original commitment" ("respect des engagements" in French). He carefully ignores the fact that Abus is months behind schedule....

But anything having to do with EADS is highly sensitive in today's French political climate.

The real news is that the A380 was so disgusted with the facilities at CDG that it flew itself back to Toulouse.

Nice job done by the CDG file brigade. They should do it to every single AF plane flying out of CDG. That way the AF image in public (or a.net) opinion will change.  Smile
