I Got Pictures Of An Emergency Landing Today...

Sat Aug 05, 2000 3:19 pm

Today, at IND, I took several pictures of planes coming in on final, one a USAir DC-9, I then I happened to see all IND Int'l Fire equipment, didn't think anything of it!!! I got home and all news station were reporting an emergency landing of a USAir DC-9 (yes the same one)!!! Ironically, on board, the WNBA's Washington Mystics!!! The plane landed safely, and the flight was cancelled and the Mystics got to DC 5 hours late, no word on if their game tonight was cancelled!!! The emergency landing was at the hands of a sticky substance that dripped all over a passenger, and left some sort of rash...it was compared to super glue (smell and texture)!!!

For what it's worth, the game went on, and the Mystics beat down the Detroit Shock, 96-72.

The local newscasts had shots and interviews of the Mystics in the IND terminal, waiting for another flight back home. It also had pictures of the plane, which had a rather filthy rear and engines.

Is it just me, or do USAirways' older aircraft look like they haven't had a good cleaning in about a decade?

Well y'all shouldn't have to worry about flying on US Airways DC-9's as they are being phased out at the moment. The new Airbus fleet will replace them. As for the dirty end of the plane, I can't see cleaning that if your gonna turn around and sell it (although it is sorta nasty, but oh well).

Safety

Dirt on the aircraft (excluding the obvious parts) is not a flight hazard. Do you people know something else about their maintenance procedures or are you just hygiene freaks?
