Southwest Flt 1455 Flight Crew Fired

Sun Aug 06, 2000 12:53 am

With reference to the Southwest Airlines 737-300 crash at Burbank, California on March 5, the flight crew have been fired from the airline. Does anyone have any more info on the events that lead to them being fired? Why were they both fired and not just the pilot flying? After an incident like this and the wake-up call they both no doubt got as a result, they would surely now be amongst the safest pilots to fly with?

I don't actually have any idea as to why they were fired. However, the fact that they both were suggests that SOP's were not followed and neither pilot challenged the decisions made by the other, which means that correct Crew Resource Management was not implemented.

I am sure that if everything had preceded as normal in this kind of incident they would not have been fired and I am doubly sure that the pilots union would have intervened.

As for them now being the safests pilots around..........unsure, you never know what kind of lasting effect this could have on someone's mental state.

Anyone know the real reason?

The captain has been flying for Southwest for 12 years. so I think that is kind of sad. I don't think he should have been fired for that.
The First Officer has been flying with SW since 1996. I also don't think he should be fired. He wasn't the Pilot Flying.
