Who Can Ident These DL 767 Flights Today?

Mon Jun 04, 2007 7:15 am

This is for the flight tracker gurus. I was on OS093 VIE-IAD today, and we passed two DL 767s exactly 1,000 feet below and 1/2 mile to our left, over Fredericton, Canada at 12:20 pm EST. Beautiful contrails, could almost see into the windows. In first position was a -300, and right behind it a -400. We slowly passed both, going about 50 knots faster.

Does anyone know what flights they were ? extra points for N numbers.

Using a little detective work, it appears that the 764 you saw was DL21 CDG-ATL on ship 1815 N839MH. The track logs on FlightAware seem to match fairly well.

Not sure about the 763 but I will see if I can figure it out using today's flights on my flight tracker.

My best guess for the 767 you saw was DL159 DUB-ATL which was ship 1702 N172DZ on the third of June. The positions on FlightAware also match and I actually saw them on my flight tracker today flying in formation bewteen the NYC area and PHL today around 1400EDT. I think those are the planes you saw.  smile

Thanks DAirbus. Had to be them since the positions at around 12:15 are almost exact .. of course I have no idea what other ac might have been on the right side.

Thanks for taking time, how did you look this up ? I know about the flight tracking web sites but wasn't sure how to look by airline and position only. BTW, appears they were 3K below us, not 1.

Really cool ... and a little scary ... that you can see a plane and real time or later on id it and get all flight details. I think "spotting" in flight is the coolest thing, esp when they're so close

I know what you mean. I was on a DL 777 FRA-ATL a couple of weeks ago and just off the coast of Ireland I saw a DL764 flying in formation beside us so close I could almost read the registration with my monocular. Unfortunately the window was dirty and there was too much sun glare so I was unable to read it before he pulled ahead of us after a few minutes.

Look for an IM from me.
