Omni 108 LAS-HNL Diverting To SFO

Tue Jun 05, 2007 4:02 am

Looks like Omni #108 enroute to HNL, a 757, is returning to the mainland for some reason. It should be landing at SFO around 12:05p. Anyone have some info?

It is Omni take a guess!

I remember when they ran the DC-10-10's they had to go tech everytime on the LAS-HNL with an enroute stop at OAK. The DC-10-30 is seasonal on the route and I believe is flown as Boyd Vacations with a 3 class config. The 757, lower yielding is Vacations Hawaii, with a 2 class config? Omni was supposed to be getting additional LAS flights from the Boyd group with service to ACY. I am not sure if that has happened as of yet.

Those planes have go to be the worse to be on. Talk about sardines in a can. The seat pitch is terrrible. I guess the saying goes you get what you pay for!......The service is also horrible and unprofessional.

Omni has always been beat down by the press in Hawaii. Their reputation would seem to proceed them. On a side note Omni Air International has also received some ex-NWA DC-10-30 equipment. Those are very nice looking birds on the interior. They will be rotated to Hawaii only on rare occasion's in between DOD operations, and only in high season.

Huh? I read both daily newspapers and there has been next to nothing about Omni in our press.

My five foot tall, 90-pound grandmother flew Omni a few years ago from LAS to HNL and even she complained about the legroom and how cramped it was. However, she acknowledged the ticket was cheap so she didn't expect anything. She said the price was right, but would opt to pay more in the future for more amenitiies.

LOL.. Omni is working to change their image.. Everytime I talk to someone in Hawaii about Omni. They pretty much remark cheap seats, no Aloha!

Omni's contract for LAS-HNL is a year round contract for Vacations Hawaii. 757's are used in Low Season w/ a 2 class configuration, while a DC-10-30 LDG is used in high season w/ a 3 class configuration. Due to the average age of the passengers these flights often have medical emergencies onboard, which could perhaps be a reason for the diversion.

LAS-HNL, but they are being diverted to SFO?? Am I missing something here or wouldn't it be more logical to divert to a Southern, CA airport.

It has been my experience when working HA's flights from LAS-HNL, that we are normally routed over Northern California and the SF Bay area, and not the L.A. basin when headed west bound to Hawaii, and we take a more southerly route just north of L.A. when flying east bound HNL-LAS.

MLT was using Omni as well. Vacations Hawaii used to use Hawaiian, until they switched to Omni.

I flew an Omni DC-10-10 back in 2001 LAX-LIH-HNL-LAX on a SunTrips charter. Seat width was a bit tight (3-4-3), but legroom wasn't terrible. It probably didn't hurt that the flights weren't full. I thought the service was fine, however the food was bad (but that's not Omni's fault; they serve whatever the agency chartering their flight buys).
