Scandal-plagued Superjumbo Is No Cheap Date

This interesting article by Emma Vandore reports on progress of airports preparing for the hulking A380.

San Francisco, London, Sydney, Singapore and Frankfurt are ready to receive the A380 from ailing Airbus.

At CDG each plane will have three jetways for speedier boarding.

LAX is expected to be the first U.S. destination for the A380 after it enters commercial service.

That would have to be QF. SQ might upgauge SIN-NRT-LAX but not before 2009.

Doesn't it have the range to do SIN-LAX nonstop with a slight pax. restriction?

Yes, but only eastbound. Westbound LAX-SIN would need to stop somewhere.

My impression was that SQ were looking to use it on SIN-HKG-SFO and the initial post-production numbers suggested that it would not be able to do the SFO-HKG leg 365 days a year. Perhaps these issues have been cleared away.

Correct.

The engine manufacturers have had an extra two years to get SFC down, so progress would be likely.

I agree. JFK will be the first.

Both QF and SQ are using them elsewhere first.

Correct.

News to me, do you have a source ? That would mean it has dropped 400 nm of range somewhere.
