SB Airlines To Bogota And Lima?

Thu Jun 07, 2007 3:17 pm

There are rumors flying around that Santa Barbara Airlines is acquiring some used MD-80s that will replace the 757 which currently flies the CCS-MIA and CCS- Quito - Guayaquil routes. These will also be used to resume service to Lima and new service to Bogota replacing Aeropostal once it withdraws from the market this month.

I really think this is a good decision. This is strategically done to provide more feed for its European routes to Madrid and Tenerife where there is a lot of demand to these three countries. Santa Barbara specializes in the Ethnic-Northern South American market both from Europe and Miami that has been crucial to the development of transatlantic routes to the continent.

So MIA is getting downgraded to a MD80? That sounds odd, I gigured the market was doing well, and if VH was dropping that route

Sure.... they are nearly bankrupt! VH flies only with seven planes (2x DC-9-30s, 2x DC-9-50s, 2x MD-82s and 1x MD-83).

As an other rumor Santa Barbara and Aserca will get seven MD-80s: Aserca And Santa Barbara MD-80's? (by 717fan May 19 2007 in Civil Aviation)

What's your point? They continue to operate two daily flights to Miami and aren't dropping them.

They will pull out the 757´s fleet or for those routes only? I don´t think is a good idea on the CCS-MIA route because of the competition with AA..

This is pretty sad, VH is the Oldest airline in Venezuela and right now they can only operated certain routes because only 7 planes in active service

They are making a HUGE mistake if they choose to replace the 757, especially in the CCS-MIA route. S3 is the biggest Venezuelan Airline in the international field (Not so long ago was VH but we all know what is the actual situation of Aeropostal), so i think that the replacement of the 757 with md-80 is like going backwards. I though that they will order some 737, what happened with that?.

Actually... I found out that the 757 is not leaving and will continue flying the MIA and Ecuador routes. The MD-80s will be used to launch BOG and LIM. I wonder when it is that they'll start selling tickets, since the website is not updated yet.

S3 is/was using VH for their onward connections to LIM and BOG as well as to some other destinations. They need these flights to fill their MAD services. This is why they NEED to start them. But don't forget that VH announced to close LIM in September. So there is still some time.

Correct ! I think the 757 is the much better equipment for MIA than a MD80. If they replace the 757 they would loose some advantage against VH.

What about the rumors that Aserca might take over S3 ?
