EK384/385 BKK Stopover

Fri Jun 08, 2007 4:43 am

Im travelling to HKG with Emirates on EK384/385 and was wondering what happens when the flight stops in BKK. Do passengers get off and wait in the terminal and look around or do we remain on the plane and only BKK pax get off?
Any help would be greatful!

I am actually curious to know the same about traveling between Manila and Detroit with Northwest on NW72 which stops in Nagoya for 90 minutes. Does anyone know if passengers continuing to Detroit are allowed to disembark during the stop?

I did this journey in both directions back in Dec 03, we were held on the a/c at BKK.

Nobody is allowed to compete with EK on-board duty-free or DXB Airport duty-free... keep them on the plane!

Interesting inputs! Hahaha... Anyway, my experiences with transits are that unless the plane in in a rush, pax are allowed to get off in BKK. Back at DMK, transit passengers had to take "TRANSIT CARDS" handed out at the exit of the aerobridge to pax continuing on a journey, and there would be gate agents yelling at the top of their lungs in Thai accented English so you can hardly miss them.

I don't see why your EK flight would be any different.

I did something similar on EK last year on my way to Sydney. The flight also stopped in BKK. While it is being cleaned and catered, we had the option of either remaining on board or leaving the aircraft. At first I stayed on board, but when the cleaners started to clean - I decided to leave. So I went to the terminal to stretch my legs.

I flew HKG-BKK-HKG on EK this past November. Only passengers terminating in BKK were allowed off. Those following through to HKG or DXB were held onboard the aircraft. If I rememeber correctly it is a fairly quick stop.

Would it be different at the new airport?

When I flew the route we were operating from the new Suvarnabhumi airport.

I have done the EK384/385 flight between HKG-DXB via BKK several times.

I have never been allowed to leave the plane in BKK.

The stopover is quite quick, though, and they do leave the superb IFE running the whole time.

This is all interesting to read. I will be joining 384 for BKK-HKG later this month. Tell me, is this flight always the 773, or does 773ER ever get subbed in to this route?

AFAIK, the 773ER has never been subbed on this route.

HKG-BKK-DXB uses a 773, whereas HKG-DXB direct is a 332.

However, the 773 is definitely the better flying experience, being newer and featuring the 999 channel on-demand IFE system.

The 773ER is being used on the BKK-HKG-BKK route at the moment! Not sure if it is a permanent thing or not! As for the stopover, I know the flight that continues on to Sydney, the pax have to get off to comply with new Aussie security regs, but the BKK-HKG-BKK pax have to stay on board! Turnaround time is usually very quick... an hour and 15 mins is the usual!

That is subject to one's opinions. I prefer flying the A332 because mainly of the 2-4-2 more comfortable layout and why do I need 999 channel on-demand IFE system ? the system on board the A332 is enough to satisfy me. 773 is my favourite plane but EK's configuration of the 773 is packed like a sardine ! Give me the 332 over the 777.

I also flew HKG-BKK on EK back in 2005 and all the connection pax had to stay on-board. I doubt that would be different at the new airport.
