Variations In New DL Scheme

Mon Jun 11, 2007 3:09 am

It seems that there is not uniformity in the new Delta livery with the connection carriers. If you look at the blue belly of the ERJ-145s, you can tell that N14179's blue belly goes higher on the aircraft than N14177. Is this normal?

I assume that most aircraft will look more like N14179 than N14177, though I like how it looks with less blue and more white. Perhaps they were painted at different locations.

The only real way to make the new paint scheme look good is to go back to the 80's scheme.  Smile

Yeah, but I thought blueprints were given and careful measurements taken.(?) Maybe this is just a plain old mistake.  Smile

Variations do occur from paint shop to paint shop-- one long lasting example of this is the Continental 757-200 fleet. There are two painting variations on the title, relative to size.

Are any more mainline aircraft repainted, or is it still that lone 757? It's been over a month, hasn't it?

My first thought as well, but Expressjet owns its own paint shop. I'd say just a mess up in how it was laid out......it does happen

Also looks as if the Globe on the tail is different as well. Could be just the photo difference in both, but it appears to me that the Gold on N33132 is more vibrant. Also the blue on the looks darker in said picture as well.

That's probably more a result of the differences between lighting conditions in the 2 shots than the actual livery, IMO.

My photos may not be good enough for this site (this time around) but 627 was in LGA a few days ago in the new scheme, ironically about 2 hours behind 638.

Cheers

I saw N627DL leaving ATL today around 4-5pm hour. I believe she left from A14.

So, then, which one is the correct one? I'm really hoping that it's the variation on N14179.

That's what I am wondering also. I'm fairly certain that the correct one is N14179 because the Freedom ones that have been painted resemble 179. However, the recently painted CRJs for Comair have a very low blue belly. I guess time will tell.

It seems like this is a significant difference. From one plane to another, it does not look that much different, however, if these two planes were parked next to each other, it would be quite noticeable.

The bottom ERJ, N14179, has blue which extends above the wing section of the plane, while N14177 has more white and less blue. I personally like N14177 better, but I'm sure most people will disagree with me.

N11176 (ExpressJet) in SLC last week - appears to be in the same scheme as N14177.

There are still a few 97-vintage livery planes flying around that have yet to be painted into the 2000-vintage livery.

Then again, that may have to do with the fact that it's a different aircraft. If the higher blue belly is appearing on the Freedom ERJs, then I guess that's what they've chosen to go with.

Which was painted first: 177 or 179? They may have decided that 177 didn't look too good and tried something a little different with 179, which stuck.

The first ExpressJet aircraft to be painted in the new DL scheme was N14179.

I asked my friend that works at ExpressJet about the difference in the color schemes and he said that there was no mistake at the paint shop. After Delta saw aircraft 179 in real life (the first airplane), they changed the specification for the blue/white boundary. He also added that about four airplanes were completed under the original specification.

I wonder if there will be adjustments to other aircraft types as well.

I lke the N14179 better! I would rather see less of the white and see more blue curve up, just my opinion though.

My guess is that those would skip the 2000 livery and go right to the new scheme.

In terms of the repaint; wouldn't the Song 757s would get the new treatment first due to the fact that Song no longer exists as an airline?

Thanks for the excellent info. That makes sense, especially considering an earlier post states that a Comair CRJ got the new version of the blue bottom. I personally like the original version, though.
Anyone know if those ERJs got updated interiors for the DL flying as well? Or are they flying around with the same seat covers as when they were doing CO flying?

DL 16 ready to go, Runway 8R IFR to Kennedy then on to Bombay-Mumbai.

I actually think the paint scheme of the second pic is a better look. All that white is kinda boring. They should apply that design to all of their planes.
