Hello,

May I have some of your opinions of Alitalia, both good and bad, as well as experiences? Thanks.

One of my funniest experiences in the air was on a Alitalia flight from Milan to Paris. There was no seat allocation on this full flight and there was mad rush of all the passengers to get on board the 727-200. I was the last person on board and got the last row. As I looked forward from my seat, I could see absolute chaos because a couple of passengers were without seats. Tempers flared and soon there was a fight in the middle of the cabin. The senior cabin attendent appeared and all was solved. Once we were in the air and leveled out, lunch was served. There was a debate amongst the flight attendents about how the meals should be served. One group of F/As wanted to serve drinks from one end of the plane and meals from the other end. The service began and both trolleys met in the middle of the cabin. Both groups soon began arguing. In the mean time, passengers were hungry on one side of the cabin and the other group found the very salty roast beef sandwiches needed something to drink. Fortunately, most passengers found all this hilarious and looked at this flight as entertainment. I feel sure that this flight was an exception to Alitalias' usual service today.

Hi,

I flew last summer on Alitalia from Rome to Venice on an MD80. It was a short flight however I noticed the airline was ok, not bad, I had always thought it was really bad, but after my experience, I changed my mind. We were given Business Class seats without even asking, because economy was full, and the Business Class seats were comfortable, 2-2 abreast instead of 3-2 on economy. We were given a snack and a drink, but what can you expect from an extremely short flight, probably thirty mins long, if not less, correct me if I'm wrong. Service was good, seats really comfy however the only problem was that it was delayed by over an hour, and everytime we kept asking when we would board, they said 15mins...anyway Alitalia needs some imrovement but its a good airline!

Regards,
Marco

Alitalia is great. I flew with them in the summer of 1998 from JFK-Milan Malpensa (767), Milan Linate to Palermo (A321), Palermo-Rome FCO (MD80) and FCO-JFK(747). all flights were great with great services. I highly reccomend alitalia to anyone planning on travelling to Italy from the USA. From the USA they fly to Italy from New york JFK, Newark, Boston, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. their website is www.alitalia.it

Alitalia is traditionally far better on intercontinental flights than on domestic flights and short-haul, intra-
Europe. They are much more reliable these days than
in the past. They are vulnerable to strike actions but
have an excellent safety record, are modernizing the
fleet with A320 family jets, 767-300ER's, and 747-400
aircraft.

As for cabin service, it varies from pleasant and curteous (though nothing special) to downright rude and chaotic, depending on the route and so forth. I have flown Alitalia a number of times from JFK to Rome and Milan, and to/from Heathrow/City to Italy. Inside Italy, the service is average.
