787 Assembly Update (Detailed W/ Pics) - Part III

Thu Jun 14, 2007 2:00 am

Hello All,

A few photos from the factory floor were generously provided by iagblog.com that show the beginning stages of the wing/body join which began June 6. The pictures are, as always, available at my website. The winglet looks amazing!

http://flightblogger.blogspot.com

One small yet crucial update is that the movable trailing edges are now in Everett and will be installed between June 21 and 25. Which, by my estimate is cutting it quite close to paint date.

Also, everything I've heard from the floor is that everything is on track. We've beaten this issue to a pulp in the last few days but just wanted to reaffirm that things may be tight, but they are very much on schedule. First flight and roll out will likely be right on target as planned. As we all know, EIS is always an open question when talking about any new aircraft.

Lastly, keep an eye out at newairplane.com they are launching a new roll out feature on June 15.

Onward,

IAD787

P.S. I'm on a waiting list for a media credential for 7/8. Anyone have some pull?

Somebody get this guy credentials. Lord know's the reporting on the blog is 10 times more accurate than 99% of the media outlets out there!

That wing is awesome, just like my Boeing 787 1/200 Scale Model!

I can't wait to see this puppy roll out.

Kudos to IAD787!

I always wondered why we could not get this kind of ongoing up to date info for the 380. Well done!

Those winglets certainly do look sexy. I a bit disappointed that the final design didn't include the chevy style vertical fin  Smile

Well, we may not have gotten the shark tail so many of us liked from the original Dreamliner concept, but at least we'll get the shark fins!

Wow nice pics!!! Thanks so much for sharing them with us!!! Curious if you have gotten any of the photos that showed the problems (now resolved) with mating sections 41+43? Just wondering as there is a discussion about it going on. Thanks again  Smile

Those wingtip do look insanely sharp. When they flex above the fuselage, they're going to be ridiculous.

Good question, I always wondered that too. We have ample 787 engineers hanging out around here, where are all the Airbus engineers?

Cool, thanks! Rapier wing looks dangerous alright.

Hey, just looked at Boeing's 787 site and on customers' list, it doesn't have ANA! Surely that's an over site or is ANA leasing its entire fleet?

Which customer list?

The ANA order is listed on the Orders and Deliveries page under All Nippon Airways

....and on the B787 Fact Sheet.

We did, Its called the A380 Navigator and its still running (http://events.airbus.com/A380/Default1.aspx) . It used to be updated weekly. I've often wondered why Boeing didn't do this for the 787, but then again they have been playing their cards pretty close.

Excellent stuff IAD787, just keep it coming. Its always exciting to see a new bird ready to roll  Smile

Given all the problems and issues that have been cropping up and how open these guys have been one really has to root for the Boeing engineers to get this done on time. Its going to be tight! Good luck..

IAD787,

There was an interview on www.bbn.ca yesterday afternoon with an academic who was claiming that there was a one inch
dia. difference between barrels when they came to be mated together. You can play the clip by clicking the "previous video" tab, program for Wednesday (June 13th,) the clip was at 1.45PM .
I have trouble believing the authenticity of this. Any thoughts?

There was a separate thread about the mating issue. Can't find it though, perhaps I didn't look good enough or perhaps it was deleted. There are pics showing this but I understand they were "released" under suspicious circumstances. Those were in the thread and perhaps that's why the thread might have been deleted.

The pics themselves look like the real deal but I have not got a clue if they show what they claim to show. What seems clear is that it is nothing B. has released intentionally. And from what I understand it is not an issue any longer?..

I think the chances of you getting one is pretty much nil, nada, none, IMO. Sorry to be a bit harsh but I really don't think they'll let just anybody in there, hence as to why its an 'invitiation only' event.

Besides, do you even have a degree in journalism?

Hey does A.net have the rights to have press reps? contact the mods we should have representation. We should sign up members in each state with press credentials to cover aviation for the site. A.net is a well known name and this would be the move to the next level. I think we could rival Aviation Week in a few years due to the real time reporting if we make this move.

I think we could rival Aviation Week in a few years due to the real time reporting if we make this move.

What I want to do with my blog is turn it into huffington post-style aviation site with great writing and great content. Then again, it's still early, and waaaaay down the road.

This is as tight of an event as I have ever seen. I have brought photogs with me in the past, but this event is strictly no guests. Not just the actual rollout but all three days festivities.

It will be exciting for A.net and our customers, I am going to attempt to be first with the pictures, there will be internet access onsite, but not on the actual floor, but I am going to try to send at least one shot to the site from the floor. Should be a delay of only two minutes or so. A great time to try some new tricks Big grin

Those winglets certainly do look sexy. I a bit disappointed that the final design didn't include the chevy style vertical fin Smile

I think you will see that in the 787-3!

Cool, thanks! Rapier wing looks dangerous alright.

From Boeing's Website:
Orders for January 2004 through May 2007
Customer Name Country Region Model Engine Order Date Total
All Nippon Airways Japan East Asia 787-3 RR 26-Jul-2004 30
All Nippon Airways Japan East Asia 787-8 RR 26-Jul-2004 20

Thanks for your feedback guys, sorry should have been more specific.

If you go to:

http://www.newairplane.com

and click on:

Launch 787 Dreamliner Site

and on the Flash page that launches, go to:

Who's Flying

You'll find that NH is missing from the list when you look alphabetically under both ANA and All Nippon.

No, ANA is there. For some reason, though, if you scroll down and then scroll back up, ANA does disappear.

We wouldn't forget our launch customer!

checkmark  Thats exactly as to why I was saying that the chances of getting any media credential is very, very slim-to-none for any A.net member. It doesnt hurt to apply for one, but I don't think they'll give any of us a pass. Im only assuming but I have a feeling that Boeing has probably already issued out their media credentials to selected area reporters and the chances are they perhaps won't issue anymore. You can only allow so many people in one place at any given time, that is maybe one of the reasons as to why there are no guests allowed and some events are taken place at Safeco/Qwest Fields.
