Jet2.com News 1

A thread for all things Jet2.

To get the ball rolling, why is the MAN to BCN route being shelved on 4th September? Have they really given it time?

That aint rocket science, the timings are quite frankly dreadful. Who the hell wants to get to BCN for 2300 at night (and that's if it is on-time which it usually isn't) when you can go with easyJet, Monarch or even Ryanair to Girona with reasonable flight times? That is obviously the reason why the demand is low, plus how much demand can BCN sustain from the NW - Jet2 obviously have got in too late.

Would like to see the proposed MAN - WAW that briefly went on sale last year be re-introduced.

Do LS have any plans to renew their fleet of ageing 737-300s? I have travelled to AMS, BCN and VCE in the past 2 weekks on them and they are nothing short of shabby and smelly. Even the exterior paint jobs look shabby. Broken seats, overhead lights, strong smell of fumes in cabin - it wasn't very pleasant!

Agreed.
Their youngest 737 MSN 24303 was built in 1988. Add the "new" 757s to the list also! Youngest one is from 1992.

Maybe they can't afford new planes or something.

Unlike most low-cost airlines, Jet2 buy rather than lease their aircraft. Although they pay more to refit the aircraft with new interiors, and have to pay more for fuel costs, the management worked out they still save more money than if they operated brand new aircraft. They have gone from a small cargo operator to a major player in the UK passenger market in a space of about 4 years, having achieved as much in that time as easyJet did in their first four years if not more.

Frustratingly, I need MAN-GVA throughout the summer. Out of MAN, LPL and LBA only MAN isn't linked to GVA year round now, with the exception of SV twice a week. Maybe bmibaby might offer something next year.
