Fleet Questions On AA's 757s & 762s

Good morning Folks...
I've been away for a year & please forgive me if this topic has been discussed before. Some simple questions here.
Regarding American's 757 fleet...I know there are 124 757-223s (all RRs) and 27 ex-TWA 757s (all PWs), and that the TWA birds are being phased out & some are being sold to Delta. But I've heard that AA was or still is looking for pre-owned RR-powered 757s to replace the TWA birds. Is this a rumor or fact? Did AA find any used RR-powered 757s, or not?
Regarding the 767-223 fleet...I know there were 17 -ERs & 13 non-ERs. The 13 were or are soon-to-be grounded for good, while the 16 -ERs (one destroyed on 9/11) are to be overhauled & refitted with winglets. So is it all 16 -ERs to be retained for awhile longer, or just some of them? Are the 13 non-ERs being sold elsewhere or to be scrapped?

Considering AA runs 13 trans-con 767-200s a day between JFK and LAX/SFO, and each plane due to flying time can reasonably get 1 round-trip in, plus a couple of morning runs from JFK to MIA and BDA, I'd tend to think all 16 767-200 ERs will stay around, but I'm not 100% sure. Based on the frequency of services though (I know UA has 13 P.S. 757s dedicated to 14 daily flights from JFK to LAX/SFO), I'd believe they'd need them all.

There 762s are really horrible from the inside: they really need refurbishment

AA is planning to keep all of their B-757-223s for now. The ERs have winglets already, they were the first to get them. The interiors will be refurbished, too.

DL is buying some of the former TWA B-757s, but not all of them. I think AA will park the remainder (of the TWA B-757s) until they are sold, but FedEx is looking for used B-757s to convert into freighters (I don't know if AA will sell these birds to FedEx, or not). These B-757s are all less than 10 years old, so they have lots of life still in them.

Slight correction: the PW-powered ex-TWA 757s aren't technically being sold to Delta. They are being returned to their owners, whom AA (and TWA before) leased the aircraft from, and those lessors in turn are leasing them out to Delta.

No. AA is not in the market for more 757s. The nAAtive fleet they already have -- at 124 -- is huge, and should be enough for their needs going forward, especially as more 737s come on line over the next 5-7 years.

All of the 767-200s not operating have all already been grounded for good. However, the 15 that remain are not getting winglets.

The remaining 767-200s will continue flying for the foreseeable future, as AA doesn't really have a viable replacement for them on the ultra-premium JFK-LAX/SFO routes they operate on. Long-term, my guess is that AA will get a small subfleet of 14-16 787-3s that will be operated in a low-density, premium-oriented three-class layout on these routes.

Only the original 8 (acft 301-308) were never converted to ER configuration (couldn't support the added weight) and were grounded quite a long time ago.

No -200 is scheduled to receive winglets... only the -300's. Officially, no plans to retire the -200's... yet.

Thank you all for your helpful replies. It did cleared up some confusion on my part. I just read today in my new issue of Airliners World (June '07) that AA has 47 more 738s on the way beginning in 2009. That bring the 738 fleet to 124...the same number as the 757 fleet. Hmmm...
And at the same time, I'm glad that 15 762ERs will be around for awhile longer, even if there are no winglets on them.
Now if I may add another question here regarding the 777 fleet...there are 47 currently, correct? With 7 more firm orders deferred until 2013, correct?
