Aviation Managment Careers And Outlook

Mon Jun 18, 2007 5:03 am

I am currently a freshman going on sophmore in a university flight program. But for many reasons, i see becoming a pilot less interesting (medicals, not being able to see a doctor with peace of mind, very strict rules, and off course not such good pay any more). So i was thinking of switching to the aviation managment or airport managment majors. Does anyone know what type of jobs you can get with those majors and what the pay and outlook for those jobs are?

Thanks in advance

I am a going into my senior year in Aviation Management at Purdue, and I can tell you that there are many opportunities available across the industry at the entry level position. People from my school that have graduated this past May have gotten hired by United, Continental, Northwest, consulting firms, various airports, a major aircraft leasing company, and with the FAA for Air Traffic Control. I can really only speak for the Airline Management aspect, because that is what my focus is in, but I know about people hired into jobs in Revenue Management, Pricing, Sales, Scheduling, Marketing. It would probably help if you took advantage of the many internship opportunities that are available to students in these programs. If you would like more information on this, feel free to send me a PM.

thanks, i am at purdue also !!! Go Boilers. Thanks for the information. But controllers also have rigurious medical standards (iirc), and even if you are willing to go through it you will probably end up at KLAF instead of LGA OR DTW, which doesnt seem to interesting. Do you have an ideas of specific jobs and pay, and what the outlook is??

I know that many Analysts getting hired right out of Purdue to legacy carriers are being offered starting salary in the 40-50K a year range. Not too bad if you asked me.

About ATC, I have never heard that if you go through the Purdue program you have to go to KLAF. You have the option to go through pretty much anywhere in the country. I know graduates at Boston Center, NY Center, O'Hare Airport, Akron Tower, Cleveland Center, Nantucket Airport, etc.

no i know, i just thought that most controllers out of college or in general really, work @ airports like KLAF.

I guess not some of them are going to places like the ones above.
