Great News! Congrats to Airbus and Qatar Airways!

So, QR will not order 10 A380s? Only three more? A total of 5 firmed orders--not bad!

Hey, the first time I wanted to write something into Airbus' excel sheet, and I can't do it because the A350-1000 isn't in it.  Angry

Thats interesting, considering the A350XWB Industrial Launch, as I understand it, did not include the A350XWB-1000 variant

Anyway, congrats to Airbus and Qatar!

EDIT: Never mind, just reread the Industrial Launch press release for the XWB family and the -1000 was mentioned in an off the cuff sort of manner.

Did we (as in the collective A net community) decide whether this was the biggest ever wideblody order either in terms of frames ordered or the book value?

Book value is difficult. How much would Pan Am's 25 747-100 be in today's money? Frames are not good either, because 11 767s are not bigger than 10 A380s. I'd say the best way to count is taking the seats bought.

Good call, this would be roughly 26000 seats ((20 * 275 (-800)) + (40* 325 (-900)) + (20 * 375 (-1000)) or the equivalent of

46 A380s
57 748s
or
216 A318s  Big grin

Plus 1,665 from the 3 A380s ordered at the same time. And that from a country with less than one million inhabitants.

I can't think of any bigger order ever.

Interesting detail in the Airbus release:

Quote:
The A380 is the world’s most environmentally friendly aircraft flying today and achieves fuel efficiency levels of 2.9 litres per passenger per 100 kilometres.

The previous figure I recall seeing is "3" litres/passenger/100km. How much do the A350 and B787 use?

That probably comes from the PR LH did a while back about how they have '3' aircraft on order or in use - aircraft that use 3ltr or less of fuel per passenger per 100km.

That's all PR because we have the 3-liter car here in Germany. Fuel burn per pax depends on many factors, length of the flight, seat configuration, cargo carried etc. Breaking it to tons of payload would make more sense, imho.

Not unexpected but good news. That should increase this years orderbook value considerably. It probably just doubled with this single order. But there are more firm A350XWB orders to be announced today...

http://www.iii.co.uk/news/?type=afxn...s&articleid=6150038&action=article

PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Airbus CEO Louis Gallois said that firm orders for the future A350 long-haul plane will total "more than 100" later today.

Speaking at the Paris Air Show, Gallois said that Qatar Airways' confirmation this morning of its order for 80 A350s brought the number of firm orders to 93. tfn.paris@thomson.com gt/hjp

This is indeed very interesting. I'm wondering if Tap Portugal will also take this opportunity to firm up it's 15-16 A350XWB order.

Can we have just one thread for all Airbus or boeing paris orders rather then having seperate ones and then repeating the same dicussion in the thread specifically created for the orders at paris .

Found some additional info regarding the A380 in an article published by AP.

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/070618/france_air_show.html?.v=1

"Two of the orders for the A380, Airbus's flagship double-decker plane, are conversions of earlier options into firm orders, he said, and the airline is taking one new order, bringing its total order for A380s to five. The three firm orders together are worth about $750 million (563 million euros), he said."

These are obviously not list prices, perhaps this is the negotiated price. That would be a discount of 22%. That's far below the industry average.

Qatar can't get enough.

Additionally, Qatar is ordering three new single-aisle jets of Airbus's A320 family.

Even with 5 A380s, why? With 80 XWBs, it seems their fleet is focused on this aircraft. How can such a tiny fleet of A380s be worthwhile other than to not be "left out" in the region? I guess they can put it on their LHR and SYD services like everyone else? Would 5 be enough to cover that?

QR might have said that in the past--but it certainly wants them. It already has 5 A321s on order (lease) and 1 more A320 from an earlier lease. This means that the 3 A320s ordered today MIGHT be to substitute the leased ones QR has on their fleet.

I would predict that QR will likely order more in the future.

Well, do not underestimate Emirates with their A380 order (45 of them at once?)

The sandbox must be pretty full with planes in a few years time if this continues.

Most certainly not. EK have bought their 55 (not 45) in five or six lots over a few years.

EK actually ordered there planes in bits and bobs (if you can call orders for 7, 15, 21, 4 and 8 bits and bobs!) but overall they will have a hell of a lot of A380s.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A380

I wonder if the largest order ever was the one that was placed with AB by one of the US carriers (help me out here) just for Sept 2001 and then cancelled - wasn't it for something like 200 A320s and 100 A330s?

I don't recall anything like that. The largest single order for one type was surely UPS buying 80 A300-600s. Of course, they weren't all built in the end...  Sad
