JetBlue & ExpressJet Partnership?

Mon Jun 18, 2007 9:23 pm

I've noticed ExpressJet operating some of jetBlue's JFK-RIC flights. What kind of operating agreement do these two companies have? How does ExpressJet's in-flight service compare to that of jetBlue's?

I believe the original intent of the agreement was to cover flying lost by having E190s down for software fixes.

You will not be seeing expressjet again with Jetblue altough I had fun working on them when they were here. Very nice cabin crews might I add.

Are you saying that the contract has ended, or was there some sort of problem causing the service to end?

It was only for 2-3 months while B6 rotated out the EMB-190s to BNA for software updates. I think the contract expired back in November.

How are the E-190's doing? Can B6 increase utilization to drive down CASM?

How could their contract with XJT expire last Nov if it started during the spring this year, March or April perhaps?
The ERJs didn't start leaving the CO contract until the beginning of 2007, IIRC.

I don't know, but I would love to see them get together. I think JBLU would be a nice match. Yes, I know, it won't happen because JBLU is so great and wonderful.

Correct, this is more recent stuff. Started in March IIRC.

Are they still flying for B6?

This agreement expired during May at some point. Originally it was supposed to end in April but there were further delays with the software upgrades in BNA. It was only 4 aircraft at its peak I believe. It was temporary from the get go, never expected to be long term. It wasn't terminated because of lack of satisfaction from B6. In fact, the operation was conducted with great success. XE only had 2 weeks to set the operation up. EWR crews were primarily used to work the flights that originated out of BOS an JFK. XE Mx from BTV was used to keep the planes flying throughout the operation. Xe doesn't even have any planes to be able to provide this lift uunless they came from the 9 aircraft designated for charter flying. But, to my knowledge, the agreement is over. If there are any other flights being operated by us I am not aware of them.

Did B6 eat up the entire cost of this operation, or was it picked up by Embraer as part of launch customer service agreement?
How much was this contract worth?

EMBRAER is reimbuirsing B6 for a lot of the cost involved with the XE operation.
