AA 763 At DTW!

Mon Jun 25, 2007 10:03 am

I don't know if this is common or not, but it looks like the scheduled 757-200 on AA844 was subbed for a 76' tonight.

Posted to let DTW people know, plus just wondering what might have caused a switch like that...

Could be a mechanical sub. DL has sent 763's to BNA before in place of their 752's.

the last time we had a domestic 767 was when DL sent the 762 here from ATL.

Those were the days  cloudnine

Wow a 762 from ORD-DTW. Wouldn't it be cost saving to use larger aircraft on highly dense city pairs like DTW-ORD? and DTW-MSP? I just feel that such cities could warrant larger planes on these runs.

American used 763's from ORD-DTW for quite a while after they were first delivered right along side DC10's.

While looking through a Feb 1989 Sched, I show AA had a 767 between DTW and DFW, flight 198 a morning trip
to DTW.
TWA had an afternoon 767 from DTW to STL in the mid 80's, on and off.

United flew 767-300s between ORD-DTW up until 9-11. The 763s replaced the daily UA DC-10 flight.

Delta 767-200s lasted until late summer 2002 - I flew DTW-ATL, and ATL-DTW on one in June 2002.

TWA never flew the 300 to DTW to my knowledge, but for a while in the mid 1980s they did bring the 200 in with the L1011s.

The AA 767-300s were only at DTW for a short period in the early 1990s. However back in the 1980s AA did regularly fly the 200s to DTW.

Maybe the 767-300 was in for a sports charter? Although baseball doesn't usually need a big plane like that, as football does. Frequently during the fall, football teams coming to Detroit to beat the Lions will use a 767-300. I know there were Delta 767s in a couple times last fall for football.

Don't forget KLM! KL flew 767s DTW-AMS in the summer of 1997. There is some great footage of this aircraft on Just Planes Videos' long-out of print DTW videotape.
