Questions about SFO Security and DFW and SMF Airport

Tue Jun 26, 2007 3:16 am

I ran a thread about this but its since been archived.

Some new questions:

If going from an AA flight to an AS flight at SFO, do I have to exit and re-enter security? And is 1 hour and 30 minutes enough time to make the connection?

When at SMF, I already asked regarding in-terminal spotting. I hear its not a great terminal by any means though. Are there any shops inside with aviation? Anything in the airport, such as a museum or lounge? If flying F class on AS or AA, are there lounges there?

I land in SMF at 845 AM on a Tuesday AM and have 3 hours there. Considering its the tail end of rush hour, anything worth seeing?

Questions about SFO Security and DFW and SMF Airport

Tue Jun 26, 2007 4:55 am

Yes, you will exit security from concourse E (Terminal 3) and make a left turn outside security. Then walk through the old international terminal to Terminal 1.

Alaska's ticket counter is the 5th airline down right after F9 and NW.

We use gates 20/22/24 unless going to Mexico. We then use gate's in the International terminal, primary gates are A-2 and A-4

If you are on AA or AS you are in SMF Terminal B and there really aren't shops in that terminal. I believe it is just a little gift shop/newsstand outside of security, but it has been a few years since I've been in B it might have changed.

Terminal A has a little better collection of shops.

3 hours would make it tight to see some things, assuming 20-30 minutes each way to get ground transportation and then drive/ride to the sights.

If you had a couple more hours you could do things like visiting the Aerospace Museum of California at the old McClellan AFB

Old Sac and its museums;

or some of the other sites in downtown Sacramento.

There's a Chili's Too outside security in Term. B at SMF, and you can get a view of the ramp from there. Not a great view, but a view nonetheless.

THat stinks  Sad
Does 1:20 leave enough time for a connection from an AA flight to AS flight?

Sorry, I meant specifically for in terminal spotting at SMF, from 0845-1145. For an east coaster, I look forward to anything.  Smile

Questions About SFO Security And

regarding SFO:

I arrive SFO at 1210 and trying to make a 1339 AS flight. No other way other than to exit and re-enter security, huh?

regarding SMF: what can one expect a Tuesday morning for 0830-1130 regarding in terminal spotting?

about DFW, is there any decent spotting from inside? I recall the upper level where the train is boarded as being decent. Are there decent views from inside AA's AAdmiral Club?

Yeah thats pleaty of time. It normally takes 7min or less to get from T3 to T1. The security line shouldn't be bad at the time of day, and the good thing is that when you go through the security line the Alaska gates are right there on your right.

Looks like instead of the dreaded 3 hour layover in SMF, I may be able to change my flight to include a lengthy layover in DFW instead. Of course, I prefer this.

I am trying to swing the layover in DFW. It may be a 4.5 hour layover.

-is that enough time to grab a cab to CR smith museum and back?

-if not, are there any decent areas for spotting within DFW terminal? I have heard of nice views from the Airtrain.

-Also, regarding stores in DFW, are they any decent aviation type related stores? I could have sworn there was also an American Airlines store. I thought I read this somewhere but not sure if it is truth or rumor.

I appreciate the input.

Also, are there any heavies flying into DFW on a regular basis? (340s, MD11s and 747s)

Plenty of 737s, unfortunately. The HA 767 leave at about 9:00am.

The best spotting location is at the parking structure. You can walk to it.

In addition to the above DFW questions, didnt AA recently finish a new terminal there?

Well, since no one from DFW is responding, I guess I will! You can definitely grab a cab to the C.R. Smith Museum. It is about 30 mins. from DFW in the middle of the day. The only thing about going there is you can't really see it all without having to rush to get back through security. They have a film, etc. that takes a little while.

As far as spotting goes, we do have some heavies. Korean flies a 747 Cargo flight out of Seoul, and I think it arrives around 11:00am. BA777 & AA777 are also frequent visitors. The best places to spot would definitely be the SkyLink train stations. On the upper level, you get the opportunity to look out on alot of different planes. Also, take the train over to the new Terminal D (International), they have some good vantage points for spotting. Hope this helps!
Thanks and Gig Em!

Thanks Delta Boy. Mapquest puts it at 5.18 miles away and it would take 7 minutes!

I'll stick to the airport.

Any truth to the rumor of an AA store somewhere inside?

More like 15mins if that during the middle of the day. 30 mins in traffic.

Every time I've gone from DFW to the museum it has never been 30 mins

No aviation stores that I have ever seen at DFW. The Korean 747 usually departs around 2-2.30. The AA and BA heavies arrive from UK about 1.30 as does the LH 340 from Germany.
