New Name For Royal Nepal?

Tue Jun 26, 2007 3:49 am

Just browsing the web and was looking for Royal Nepal. Got on their website and seems they are now just "Nepal Airlines"

look at the website : http://www.royalnepal-airlines.com/index2.htm
...

Am I just a little slow or something???

This may also explain why RA removed the "Royal" decals from its planes

http://www.airliners.net/open.file?i...=1&prev_id=&next_id=1208924&size=L

Hope someone can enlighten me on this!

The Nepalese Royal Family aren't exactly popular & are rapidly on their way to losing their own Royal prefix.

Yes they dropped "Royal" from the name a few months ago for political reasons.

Related excerpt from the following article:
http://globalpolitician.com/articledes.asp?ID=2999&cid=6&sid=80

The former Maoist rebels who are now in a coalition interim government want an end to the monarchy though the king has become a paper king since being forced to restore parliamentary democracy last year after years of his direct rule. King Gyanendra has lost almost all of his legitimate powers. He is no more the head of state, and not even the head of the army. But in recent months, fingers have been raised against him for diffusing the Nepalese peace process.

The Royal deletion was a process of gradually moving away from the monarcy.

Nepal has been in a state of political turmoil for a while since the last crown prince 'killed' his entire family and the bodies were cremated within hours.
The anti-monarchist Maoists are in a power-sharing situation right now and to cut a long, long story extremely short they have a single point agenda, the abolition of the Monarchy. Hence, the dropping of the 'Roya' tag from many Nepalese things - no more Royal Nepalese Embassy, Royal Chitwan national Park or Royal Nepal Airlines!

So they couldn't even be bothered to repaint the planes properly? Any chance of a new livery?

Does it really matter?? As long as the flights are punctual, inflight service is good and the flight crew makes you feel at home, the name of the airline doesn't really matter. I mean merging of AI/IC took place, lets see if this makes any difference to their on-time performance  Smile

They have dropped Shanghai and Osaka, there also used to be another carrier called Nepal Airlines.

Well, they've only got 2 jets, both 757s, probably specifically for hot and high performance (KTM is more than 4000 feet above sea level and the only runway is about 10000 feet long). Given that the -800 has a takeoff run at MTOW of over 8000 feet at sea level, I thing that would be cutting it awfully close...

The 757s replaced 727s, which were also of course designed for hot and high (or in this case, not hot, but very high). Not to mention that I doubt RA has tons of cash sitting around.

Nepal has far more serious problems to deal with than painting aircraft.

Air Nepal International folded last year. The Aircraft was returned to the lessor PBAir of Thailand.

No time soon. RA is not exactly a dynamic airline. It has a lot of internal issues to resolve.

Agreed. haha

As somebody with Nepalese ancestry it is sad to see RA dwindle like this. The RA website has been an embarrassment for years and now that the name has changed they have not even bought the appropriate new domain name. Very sad.

None available in the market.
In fact better salaries offered by BDA / DHL have caused many P1s to move over to operate the B752SFs out there.

Would the 737-800SFB (Short Field Performance) aircraft have any use in this case? Baring in mind I'm no expert  Wink

Then why are they still operating to Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Delhi and Dubai.

Air Nepal International has nothing to do with RA. As I said they already folded. Don't beleive me? Go to www.airnepalinternational.com and try book a ticket. Or since they WERE based in KTM it would make sense for them to be on the KTM website, so why not go here - http://www.tiairport.com/int_schedule.htm - and try find them.

Royal Nepal Airlines is now Nepal Airlines. Air Nepal International was the other. Hope that clears things up. As a general rule wiki is nopt great for aviation facts. I one read the QR had Tupolevs on wiki!!

Need your help on that topic: my friend is flying to KTM from HKG and there are two choices - Nepal Airlines or Thai. Given that she's a bit of a sensitive person when it comes to flying would you suggest taking the direct (and cheaper) one with Nepal or the HKG-BKK-KTM (more expensive and longer journey) with Thai?

My question relates to the fact that Nepal Airlines operates two rather aged 757 only and the comments given here so far do not explicitly suggest that it is bad option to take. Nevertheless, someone may have a second thought when considering the options.

It is not important to her whether it is on a 757, 772 or 333 - so this does not count

Thanks!
