Two Virgin 747-400s At JAX

Tue Jun 26, 2007 4:35 am

Due to thunderstorms at MCO a lot of flights were diverted this afternoon. I know several Southwest, a couple United, Spirit and Delta flights were diverted to TPA.

However it looks as if a couple Virgin 747-400s coming from England got diverted to JAX

wow, that is really flow into JAX, I am wonder if JAX able to handle several flights and big aircrafts into JAX due storm in MCO? On day of 9/11 IND received over 60 aircrafts. I was shock when I read newspaper on website. I was think to myself " how can they fit all of those 60+ planes at IND. Guess they figure out a way to park all of planes of variety sizes.

Its just two 747s that will park on a tarmac at JAX until the weather clears at MCO. I highly doubt that they will do any off loading. When I lived in Detroit, TOL used to frequently get Northwest 747 and DC-10 diversions and TOL is much smaller than JAX.

JAX could easily handle a 747, though not sure what gate. Remember, DL flew them scheduled from ATL for a few years in the 70's. I fly into JAX serveral times a year, albeit always onto the WN concourse. Since DL used to bring wide bodies in, if they needed to, I think there'd be a gate to park if it became a long wait. Why don't these things happen whenever I'm there?!?!?!

When I lived in Daytona, the airport ops people there told me that if need be that a Virgin 747 had to land at DAB due to weather in MCO, they could handle it too

I was in MCO on June 15th and I was surprised to see 4 Virgin 744's at the gates. Were any of the 4 744's diversions or does MCO routinely get 4 Virgin 744's at the same time and if so what are their destinations from MCO?

VS sends in 747's from MAN, LGW, and Glasgow. It isn't unusual to see 4 Virgins at Orlando all at once. Though, by the time they leave, it might be less than that. :-P
