WestJet Expands Its International Network With the Addition of Three New Sun Destinations
Montego Bay (Jamaica), Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic) and Punta Cana (Dominican Republic)
CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - June 27, 2007) - WestJet (TSX:WJA) today announced the introduction of seasonal non-stop service to three new International destinations in the Caribbean: Montego Bay (Jamaica), Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic) and Punta Cana (Dominican Republic). These new sun destinations are part of WestJet's enhanced winter schedule that also includes increased frequency to its Hawaiian destinations and new non-stop flights in its existing network.

Bob Cummings, WestJet Executive Vice-President, Guest Experience and Marketing said, "We view the success of WestJet's service into Nassau, Bahamas as a significant indicator for future successful international expansion. Today's announcement is the next step in delivering our international expansion strategy. These new sun destinations serve the dual purpose of enabling Canadians to get where they want to go while introducing lower air fares to these markets. As we add more sun destinations to our network, we see tremendous opportunity to become the airline of choice for winter travel. We are confident that our modern fleet, low fares and award-winning service will be welcomed and well received as we continue to expand internationally."

WestJet Vacations offers customized vacation packages for all of WestJet's scheduled destinations including the newly announced Montego Bay, Puerto Plata and Punta Cana.

For YOW, YOW-YVR will remain year round. YOW-MCO increases to 5x/week, but YOW-TPA is cut to 2x/week, so there's no net gain in capacity to Florida with WS this winter.

YUL-TPA is cut, while YUL-FLL increases to 10x/week.

Toronto - Los Angeles (new route) December 15, 2007 1X daily

Didnt they try this route and then drop it a year or so ago?
Takeoffs are optional; landings are mandatory.

Yes, but not a year ago. I'm pretty sure this was one of their original transborder routes. Maybe now that their YYZ route network is bigger, this flight could be viable.

No growth out of YUL. YUL-TPA cut in favor of extra YUL-FLL. Kinda sad, considering pretty much every other major Canadian airport is seeing new growth from WestJet. YUL-YEG won't be year-round, and I assume neither will YUL-YHZ and YUL-YYG.

Glad to see the continuation of YYC-YHZ into the winter, as are a few people I know that frequent the route.

All of those routes were originally announced as being summer seasonal. YUL-YHZ will have to be more than 3x/week next summer to be competitive to AC & PD, while I doubt YUL-YYG will be back. Again, why YUL-YYG and not YOW-YYG? Not only is YOW-YYG's O&D higher than YUL's there is already 3x/day service to YYG on AC during the summertime.

Good to see YSJ and YKF being maintained year-round. YKF finally has year-round domestic service.

With YSJ at 3x/week and YYG at 4x, it's pretty obvious 1 aircraft will alternate between the 2 stations.

This indeed is what Sean Durfey said recently about how it now is in a better position to go back into some of the "business" U.S. markets it had pulled out from previously.
