AS @ DCA On 6/27 Question

When coming over the bridge into Arlington around 7PM I noticed an AS 737-800 sitting over on what looked taxiway M down by rwy 22. Seemed like an odd place to put him if he was holding in the penalty box becaue of flow control. Anyone have any knowledge on what he was doing over there?

Do you remember whether it was an active aircraft (with nav lights on) or was it just parked?

Looks like the Tuesday night's flight from SEA (normally in by 9:30 PM) arrived at 3:30AM Wednesday, which probably means the crew were not legal to operate the morning flight to LAX so it was canceled and it may be that they had a spare aircraft at the field but no free gate.

Just a guess...

It wasn't a remote stand. The remote stands are over between terminal A and B, and the taxiway it was sitting on is an active taxiway thats off a runway tthat is used often by RJ's and turboprops at DCA.

Wed. and Thurs. were bad weather days at DCA (and the entire east coast) and most airlines had numerous delays and/or cancellations. With the relatively small space DCA has to hold aircraft it wouldn't be surprising if they started holding some active aircraft in some less than optimal places. Thats just the first thing that comes to mind?
