I read some time ago that AM was not using a gate at T1 but rather a remote stand (theories ranged from construction going on at T1 to AM being in serious financial problems, go figure). Would like to know if this still the case as I am flying AM 404 next Friday.
T1 is a complete mess... it is so crowded that service standards are low!!
I flew MEX
last week on AM
and all gates in T1 were full when we landed. We had to wait 20 minutes for an AT
B763 to be pushed back from Gate 3 into remote position next to an LX
A330. The captain told us that we were going to use Gate 3, but the B738 had to be towed in. When we were about to park at Gate 3, suddenly we were pushed back to a remote stand next to the AU
B763 and the LX
A330. Everybody was angry, because Gate 3 was given to an LH
A340 and it took forever to bring the "Mobil lounge" / Aerocar and take us to Gate 12. I spent 1 more hour in the crowded immigration area... Aircraft landed at 3:15pm and I got into my hotel (Grand Central) at 7pm.
On the way back, we had a 1 hour delay due to fuel shortage (that is what we were told) and we had to use Gate 12 once more ("Mobil Lounge" / Aerocar) to get to the aircraft. The only problem is that both, Gate 12 and Gate 11 can not be used simultaneously, therefore, we had to wait for an LH
B744 to finish boarding. After that it took us 1 more hour to take off, because we were number 24 in the take off list... amazing!!!
