Widebodies At MSP Today..

Sun Jul 01, 2007 8:08 am

I was out spotting at MSP this afternoon and noticed an odd amount of widebodies for NW at the terminal. To be exact there were 5 A330's (4 -300's and 1 -200), plus a 744.

Question:

I have never seen so many at one time at MSP and also did not know they had the room for all those aircraft...What's the reason for so many widebodies at MSP today?

Thanks for anything you got!

One reason for so many A330s is one of the A330s was on delivery flight. Also because of the pilot shortage didn't NW operate A330s on routes like MSP-SEA. The 744 is probably going to NRT.

Yeah, NW is running multiple 744s and 330s domestically to help move passengers with all of the cancellations between hubs and to select markets like SEA, LAX, MCO, and a few others.

you should been there back in the 90s when the DC10-40s were around. you'd see quite a number of DC10s (30s and 40s) plus a 747 or two. too bad those days are gone!! miss those 3 holers  Sad

I keep on notice that NWA is having problem and hope that they can get it reslove soon so that people can continued flying with NWA rather than start looking for another airlines. I am not surprised if SWA would be only one airlines stand after many airlines in US go out of business. I think it is due to we have too much airlines while most of world has one airlines respenstive their country, we have 10 or so airlines in US that make soo thin on every loads on all of US airlines. I think that we should pick one airlines and has it being a major airlines in US and able to go over world.

Back to topic,
I sure wish we could get 747s on MSP-SEA routinely!!! Man, that would be cool.
Instead, I guess we'll just settle for a mix of 319 and ERJ-175s on domestic routes.

Heck, even as late as 2000 it was not uncommon to see about 9 DC-10's, 1 or 2 NW 742's, and a KLM 742 parked at the terminals all at the same time. Add some Sun Country and Omni Air International DC-10's taxiing by and it was a great scene. I'm glad I got a lot of photos when I lived in Minneapolis. I miss that airport greatly...

You are right that the A330s have been doing some domestic runs due to the pilots shortage. Flight 757 DTW-MSP wasn't a delivery flight, however. This was one of those regularly scheduled flights that had an equipment sub to an A330.

Besides the regular A333 flights, there was a MSP-DTW-MSP equipment sub and a MSP-LAX-MSP equipment sub.

I miss all the trijets that used to grace the skies too, especially the DC10. Nothing like the sound of 3 CF6's or JT9D's at takeoff power! And of course, I miss all the 747 classics! cry
But those A330's sure are beautiful planes, at least we'll have those gracing the sky for years to come! bigthumbsup

Are you sure you saw an A332? The flight trackers don't show an A330-200s flying to/from MSP lately.
