AC 77L First Revenue Flight

Mon Jul 02, 2007 3:49 am

I Believe ACs first 77L was scheduled to make its first revenue flight from YYZ to LHR last night - Does anyone know if this happened? I also noticed that it was not scheduled to come back today, which seems odd and may have just been an anomaly in the schedule. Is this plane supposed to stay on LHR service until #2 arrives?

Yep it was in LHR today. Not sure about future ops until the second one arrives though.

According to two flightrackers, it operated AC 869 LHR-YYZ today (Jul. 1) for the return. It left LHR late, which only makes sense as AC 869 is slated for departure at 0830, while the inbound flight from YYZ (AC 848) only gets into LHR at 0845. On the AC schedule, the 77L was supposed to be used on today's AC 857 (1300).
Next flights: YQM-YYZ-YOW v.v. / YQM-CUN v.v. / YQM-YUL-YWG v.v. / YSJ-YYZ-SEA-SFO / SFO-YYZ-YOW-YQM / YQM-YYZ-MUC-TXL /

Actually, the 77L was supposed to operate as AC857/01JUL, but AC856/30JUN YYZ-LHR (A340) diverted to YYT due to a mechanical. That plane was suppsed to turn to AC869. So, AC869 switched from the A340 to the 77L with a 1:54 delay.

Off topic, I saw a AC E190 land at AUS today. I wasn't aware they were offering direct service with their own metal. Can any AC employees explain?

Thanks in Advance.

That was the 2nd day in a row we had to divert to AUS. Yesterday a Jazz flight from YYC-IAH did the same thing. A few weeks ago we had a YYZ-DFW flight that diverted to Abilene. Must be fun for those pilots, passengers, and air traffic controllers!!!

The first LR is doing the trans-atlantic runs until the second one arrives; then they'll both be assigned to YYZ-HKG replacing the 345s. I'm assumng that the 3rd LR (Delivery scheduled for November/December) will do the atlantic runs as well before the 4th arrives in early '08, when that pair will go to YVR-SYD. Anyone else know otherwise?

701 will join the rotation for now, it will fly NRT,FRA,LHR and the odd PEK just like the 77W's. Once we get the next 77L I think they will replace the HKG route, while the 345's will fly PEK untill they are sent off to the next airline (is it US airways?)

Congrats to AC on their brand new bird.

I know the 77Ls will also run trans-coons in Canada. They will be operated as flight 033 YYZ-YVR. I also looked ahead and there will be some domestic 77W flights in the future.

The 77L will operate from YYZ to YVR as extensions to AC 33/34 between YVR and SYD. Presumably this not only utilizes the aircraft but positions it to operate 77L services from YYZ, since it is my impression that otherwise the 77L would be somewhat of an orphan in YVR.

why do they need 77L to do transatlantic or NRT. Even the 772ER has way over range for transatlantic and enough for NRT.

How many 77L are they getting?
the only places they truly need them is for
HKG, SYD

Direct YYZ-YVR-SYD service begins around December 15th. Flight will initially operate with the 77W, and then revert to the 77L as Australia heads into shoulder/low season for travel. 89 less economy seats between the 77W & 77L.

AC 772 was doing T/G at YOW and YMX on June 30

On July 2 at approximately 14:00, I saw one of AC 777's coming out of YYZ, (rwy 24 I believe) banked left, and flew low and slow headed roughly towards YUL. Since I was driving at the time, I couldn't get a decent picture but I distinctly saw the raked wingtips, and I was wondering if this was one of the 773's, or their first 772, and why the low slow flight? Due to traffic on the 401, I couldn't keep a close watch on it, so whether it continued on towards YUL, or turned again for a touch and go in YYZ, I don't know. Does anyone know which 777 this was, and what they were doing?

They reported that appreantly a AC 777 did a low level flying [or sightseeing?] over Wasaga Beach on the Canada Day weekend, after a few Touch and Goes between YYZ, YUL and YMX

The last 345 flight is August 3rd, HKG-YYZ AFAIK. The first 2 (two) 233LRs will be used on this route. Anyone know when the full winter schedule for AC is going to be released? There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what routes are being flown by which aircraft/what dates they start.

The A345s move to YYZ-PVG once the 77Ls go on the HKG route. The skeds still have the 345 running into Dec., but it appears the network planning is in a state of flux right now with frequent changes.

Does anyone know the exact technical specs of AC B77Ls, specifically engine type and total fuel capacity. I know these specs appear on AC's website, but as numerous people have mentioned here they were most likely just copied from the Boeing website.

I depends - if you are fortunate enough to fly fly business - wait for the 77L - the biz class cabins on these planes are awesome. I took a 77W to London in early june and it was great!

In economy, i doubt there is a lot of difference.

My brother flew the 77W and said economy was better. The seats were comfortable and the video on demand system was great. He was in the row behind the second last door and had lots of extra room. I don't have time to look at the seat map but it was row 50 something. It was close to the galley as well. He was comparing though to a regular A340-300 not the 500 though.

Ah... Is it scheduled to fly to LHR as AC 858 later 'tonight' (it's already 'tomorrow' here in London)...? Was hoping to see it on 7th, based on the schedule above, but that obviously didn't happen.

Well, here in Canada at the moment it's July 7 and indeed, as per the schedule, AC 858 will be operated by the sole 77L. It has arrived from PEK at 1812 (on Jul. 7) and will leave again on July 7 at 2325 as AC 858, arriving in LHR at 1110 on July 8. You'll see it as planned, on the 8th and not the 7th.
Next flights: YQM-YYZ-YOW v.v. / YQM-CUN v.v. / YQM-YUL-YWG v.v. / YSJ-YYZ-SEA-SFO / SFO-YYZ-YOW-YQM / YQM-YYZ-MUC-TXL /

Just a clarification. The scheduled for the 77L I posted in reply 21 has the days of the week (1 to 7 = Mon. - Sun.) used in airline schedules and not the days of the month. Could that be the souce of the confusion? 6 is used for Saturday (which is July 7).

Of course! Silly me!  crazy

Thanks for the clarification, will be watching out for it later this morning, hoping for westerlies over London so that it glides down the ILS past my apartment (at a distance!)...

Thanks!

Yes I missed the days of the week and was thinking calendar days. Saw her leave last night as 858 to LHR. Looked great and was just as quiet on take-off as the 77W. Sure sent a jet blast across Airport Road as she turned to leave on runway 5. Also saw Cathay's 747-400F leave just after that but left before Korean's 747.
