ETOPS stands for Extended Twin Operations (or close to that), which basically means a twin engine aircraft is certified to fly a certain time/distance away from the nearest airport. I'm sure that someone else will post more detailed information on that one, but basically what it does is allow more direct/efficient routes over areas (such as the Atlantic) where there are few airports.

AVOD, stands for Audio and Video On Demand which basically means that you have a personal tv screen at your seat and you can choose which programming from a list to watch/listen to when you want.

ETOPS = Extended-Range Twin-Engine Operations

AVOD = Audio Visual On Demand

ETOPS are the rules for twin engined aircraft in commercial service and their ability to operate further than 60 minutes from a diversion airport

AVOD is the generic for the advanced in-seat entertainment systems that many aircraft have.

ETOPS is the rules governing twin engine planes flying over water, generally. There are different time limits depending on aircraft in how far away an aircraft can fly from an airport when going over water. Wikipedia will be a good source to look at for more info.

AVOD is audio video on demand. The new enternainment systems on planes where you can choose when and what to watch, rather than being stuck with whatever the aircraft is playing. Everyone can choose something, and also they have their own personal screens of course.
