Altitudes In Equator Regions?

Wed Aug 09, 2000 9:21 pm

Is there any difference when flying in the equator regions than flying on the northatlatic routes due to weather for example ??
I think there's pretty often very high clouds and so I'd like to know if jets coming from Europe for example use higher altitudes ??
Thanks for answers.

When flying around the equator, we simply do more doglegs to avoid wheather.
Flying higher is usually not feasible because most of the time we fly at the optimum altitude for the aircraft, which is usually almost the max at that moment.
