MY Opening LAS F/A Base & Hiring Asian Speakers

Tue Jul 03, 2007 12:34 pm

Good Evening to all. I have just received a phone call from a friend of mine that has been contacted by MaxJet for a position as Flight Attendant based in Las Vegas. In addition the person she spoke with at MaxJet said that her knowledge of an Asian language is very important to MaxJet's plans. The person she talked to at MaxJet said that they are looking for Mandarin, Cantonese, and Japanese speaking Flight Attendants.

Does anyone have any additional news about the new MaxJet Las Vegas base?

Does anyone have any additional information about expansion to Asia?

Thanks for the link..  Smile

I wonder if they are going to be doing Casino Charters to Japan or Macau from Las Vegas?

Seems odd, but who knows. I believe in the configuration Maxjet's 767s are in, they can reach Asia easily.

Speaking of Maxjet, its looking more and more like Miami will be destination number five in February. Keeping my fingers crossed.

That is great news for them. Miami is a high-end TATL market, and MaxJet is wise to enterprise on it. Although I wonder if Palm Beach or Ft. Lauderdale may end up being the actual gateway. The market that MaxJet is targeting has been untapped for years outside of only a few select airlines. The idea of an all premium economy style airline with Business Class amenities has really taken off. It is good to see MaxJet expanding. The value alone of MaxJet is more than enough to detract higher paying Economy Class flyers from the major airlines in the markets that MaxJet serves. The value for product is truly unmatched with other airlines Premium Economy offering.

It is MIA. Absolutely nothing is final yet, but I do know that Maxjet and MIA have been in talks about gate space. They'll probably be in Concourse F if it happens.

Hopefully. Supposedly Miami is competing with another city for the service. I would guess that city is Boston.

I would think that Miami would win out if by Cargo being part of the decision..

From a Maxjet IPO shareholder document I have, their candidate US markets to be linked to STN are the Bay Area (SFO/SJC), South Florida (MIA/FLL) and Central Florida (MCO).

Factors they are looking at;

Bay Area;
Inner Population:2.7m
Inner Income:30,000GBP
Outer Population:6.9m
Outer Income:32,500GBP
Daily O/W Pax:720
Competing airlines:BA, UA, VS
Daily frequencies:5
Market share required for MY:9%
MY as % of premium seats:27%

South Florida
Inner Population:2.7m
Inner Income:20,000GBP
Outer Population:4.5m
Outer Income:21,000GBP
Daily O/W Pax:535
Competing airlines:AA, BA, VS
Daily frequencies:4
Market share required for MY:6.8%
MY as % of premium seats:33%

Central Florida
Inner Population:1.3m
Inner Income:22,000GBP
Outer Population:3.2m
Outer Income:20,000GBP
Daily O/W Pax:442
Competing airlines:BA, VS
Daily frequencies:3
Market share required for MY:8.6%
MY as % of premium seats:40%

Their direct target markets have four characteristics:
1 - Significant passenger volume paying between 500GBP and 3000GBP on competing airlines
2 - Multiple carriers to limit competitive response
3 - Availability of airport facilities not requiring capital investment
4 - Good connectivity with other lower cost carriers

Congrats to MY.

It goes to show that the 767 series is still very much able to provide operators with an excellent operational cost value despite being a 25 year old design!

I wonder if the author of this story found out something we don't know about yet:

"...Maxjet is looking to concentrate on new routes to cities such as Miami and Los Angeles."

Also, there is talk that SWA is opening a crew base at LAS this coming fall. That would be good since that LAS has high load factors that come thru LAS almost everyday. It would be good to have a crew base there so that crew can spend few days rest between the flights. Guess SWA make another good decision to start a crew base there along with another crew base in US.

I thought DXB and India are next on the list for MY, not another US city.

I am betting that those are all pre-existing Southwest Airlines employees that are going to transfer bases as Las Vegas has been begged to be opened by Southwest Airlines in-flight for years..

They would need Fifth-Freedom Traffic rights, as those rumors are for service from Stansted.

From what I understand, I think MY has Flag status and is able to operate STN-DXB.

I question that as EOS has long wanted to operate STN-DXB but have been unable to due to the lack of inability to gain Fifth Freedom from the British market.

I wonder if they are considering MIA-South America and SFO/LAX-Asia routes?
