LH Is Changing Airport In Moscow Starting 31Mar08

Thu Jul 05, 2007 3:49 am

From Sheremetyevo (SVO) to Domodedovo (DME). Looks like SVO will be SkyTeam hub, DME - StarAlliance hub.

there was a thread about this some days ago, but was archived due to the site troubles then...

is there any anouncement about this from LH?

Good idea - even though Sheremetyevo 3 should be much nicer than SVO-2, a lot of Star is already at DME. I expect LO and SK to move to DME too.

Transaero (UN, flying from DME as well) is codesharing with BD and, science yesterday, with OS.

Their Russian network not so big as network of S7 or KrasAir, but they are still look like future Russian *A carrier...

Transaero has an all-Western fleet, so it makes sense Star would want them.

Isn´t this pretty "stupid" ?

What happens if someone wants to fly FRA-DME With LH , and he has a connecting flight with Skyteam from SVO ?

I doubt this will be good for Moscow ...

Yes, that should be the next step.

Nothing happens. They need to plan out their trip accordingly. Star will fly from refurbished DME, and SkyTeam will use brand new SVO 3. As simple as that. It actually works out better in my opinion. DME has an ENORMOUS amount of domestic routes thanks to S7, Kras Air, Domodedovskie Avialinii and so on.
SkyTeam will also be covered with Aeroflot's network. It all works out.

I believe that DME have much more CIS destinations, than SVO...

No. They recently got one Tu-214 : )

In any case, Aeroflot have a lot of Tupolevs and Ilyushins - and it was not a problem for SkyTeam. I even love Aeroflot's refubrished Tu-154 interiors.

From another point of view, Transaero's fleet is quite old and interiors are quite worn-out. My last flight with them on 733 was quite terrible, because fan in ventilation just above me was much louder, then even engines... I was quite tired and planned to sleep - but failed. Sound was too annoying...

In any way they are recieving some 320 and 330 next year - I really hope they will put one of them to my route...

I flew through both SVO and DME last week.

I could not believe the difference!

Sheremetyevo is still stuck in the 1980s, whereas Domodedovo is as modern an airport as you would hope to find anywhere in the world.

An amazing contrast, like two different countries, and yet in the same city!

S7 is in talks to join oneWorld, so looks like AiRUnion could be the preferred partner.

Is my answer too obvious (aks. "stupid")? : He needs to connect airports, usually on his own expensesThis happens all over the world where there are multiple airports in one city like LGA/JFK/EWR or LHR/LGW/LTN/STN/LCY.

And do not count on checked-thru luggage when switching from one alliance to another.

Another questions (this one I was about to post in the other thread when A.net went off-line):
Once LH has changed from SVO to DME, what are the chances that fellow *A-members SK and LO also switch from SVO to DME ?

Is there an "official" source for this? Several days ago it was just rumors, and so far neither Lufthansa nor DME officially announced the move.

I wonder if DME will be able to keep up with the growth - the traffic at the airport has been growing 20%/year for several years now, LH alone will bring 69 frequencies/wek (based on current schedule) to DME. DME has one terminal - they did great job refurbishing and expanding it, but it can not be stretched indefinitely....

a quite interesting question!! thats something I was wondering about that as well. I was at DME last week and the only thing they have plenty of was ATM machines. Quite an amusing view when you go from arrival to departure hall and you have an ATM every 5 meters left and right, for no obvious reason...

Anyone with more knowledge about the development of DME????

SK codeshare with SU, on all their SVO flights, which all together are four daily (from CPH and ARN), probably a good feeding deal for both. I would suspect this deal to end if they move to DME. I doubt they will get more passengers from DME, so i imagine that they'll stay at SVO until some stronger Russian/CIS *A appearance will happen at DME.
Last flight: SAW-CPH on H9 on 02/11/09 - Next Flights: 23/12/09 CPH-AAL on QI, 30/12/09 CPH-LHR on SK, 19/01/10 CPH-CDG-

Moscow does not have any secondary airports because, DME Is a private airport in competition with SVO their is also Vnukuvo which is the secondary airport.

SKYTEAM has a horrible domestic Russia operation. AEROFLOT has only 12% of the Domestic market of Russia and does not fly to every where it needs to. I hope Continental flies soon EWR-DME they will make a fortune on this route as their will be good connections.

S7 Airlines will not go to ONEWORLD, S7 most likely will head to Star.

Malev is a member of ONEWORLD and they are owned by AirUnion.

OK, in DME it's more or less OK. But in SVO it's just terrible. Especially if you need to change terminals.

Continental will NOT fly to DME, no matter what the current situation will be. CO is SkyTeam, and SVO 3 is a brand-spankin new terminal built mostly exclusively for SkyTeam - that will be CO's destination.

No. I will miss LH greatly. They had a huge amount of daily flights. It seemed that an LH aircraft was parked at SVO 24/7.

I wonder if the LH general director in MOW got as many death threats as the BA guy initially did when moving to DME?

I am travelling to Russia in October, flying EK into DME. I need to connect to LED, and there are only like 4 flights a day from DME to LED - 2 in the morning and 2 at night. I really thought there would have been more airlines on this trunk route.

It wont.

Transaero's western aircraft are ageing also - not what i would consider a quality product. They may be western aircraft, but old classic versions.
