SQ Will Add 2 Weekly Flights To CDG

Fri Jul 06, 2007 3:17 am

see AFP news below (sorry in French). It says that, in october, SQ will add 2 weekly flights SIN-CDG to the already existing daily flights (total 9 weekly flights) to meet the demand. They will be all operated in 773.
This is obviously a good news but could somebody explain me why SQ is allowed to increase frequency while AF seems not authorized to do the same (AF would like to add flights on this route to meet the demand to Australia thanks to its successful code-share agreement with QF but was unable to do it due to the current bilateral agreement. So they extend their agreement with QF to flights via HKG). Has the bilateral agreement between France & Singapore been revised ?
thanks for comments

I guess SQ will be eventually running an A380 on this route...

It is highly likely that, if this reinforced schedule indeed materializes, AF will be adding frequencies to the route as well. As for SQ, let's not forget that the route was changed from a daily B744 last year to the current daily B77W, entailing a loss of quite some seats. As such, a reinforcement of available frequencies should not come completely unexpected.

you're absolutely right. I haven't made the calculation but the number of seats offered / week with the 9 B77W flights is probably similar to 7 B744 flights.
Anyway, I hope AF will be allowed to add frequencies.

Does anyone have the schedules of the 2 new flights? Can't seem to find it anywhere on SQ's website, nor is there any news release from them that states this.

Even with the extra 2 77W flights, their weekly capacity is still 123 less than operating a daily 744.

The additional flights mounted with the 773ER is only for 3 weeks, starting from the 05oct with services on friday and sunday.

SQ332 will join the lunch time departure from sin at 1240 ( as with lhr/fra), arriving into CDG in the evening.
SQ331 will return the same day about 2335 hours, arrival into sin in time for the the evening wave of departure to asia and australia.

This move may be only a temporary increment as more 773ERs are being delivered. Next up SQ28/27 sintpelax v v .

North

That is likely because the flights haven't been loaded yet in the winterschedule.

Singapore (the country) has an open skies agreement with the EU and will offer just about unlimited frequencies in/out of SIN.

I don't the problem is with the Singapore government but more an issue with OZ/France.

Interesting...
but it seems to be the trend of the "mega hubs"

What would the OZ/France issue bue that would impact connections in SIN?  scratchchin  The only thing I can think of is lack of seats and thus an unwillingness to code share.

Note that the extra frequencies are on Fri and Sun, returning on Sat/Mon. These are days of the week where extra capacity can be offered without (hopefully) impacting yields significantly (although I do suspect SQ will have to offer some very low yielding fares on the daylight westbound services). SQ struggled with yields on the CDG when it was a daily 744 (same with ZRH), and this partially explains why these two routes were the first to be served with the 773ER. Unless market conditions change significantly, to deploy the A380 to CDG on a daily basis would be disastrous for yield, especially on the midweek flights when 200+ extra seats have to be filled each day, not to mention the likely loss of cargo capacity.

Is it a bilateral agreement or an open skies agreement?
If it is an open skies agreement, there is nothing stopping AF to increase the number of flights CDG-SIN.
Or does AF just not have enough aircrafts avaliable?

The current codeshare agreement with QF is today for the flights leaving SIN in the evening, after the AF flight from CDG has arrived.
If AF is to add more CDG-SIN flights, they probably should have an earlier departure from CDG, for being able to codeshare with QF for the afternoon departures from SIN.
Or will they do like BA and fly double evening flights from Europe?
Guess it depends on how many more codeshare QF accepts from SIN.
It would definately be nice to see more of AFs beautiful birds in SIN.

Does anyone know why KLM does not codeshare with QF as AF/KL is one company?
If you want to fly KLM from AMS to SYD they route you via Kuala Lumpur with MH.

Is it possible that the flights are just not yet in the system for the Winter timetable that starts at the end of October?

SQ now has the frequency increase to 9 weekly flights on their web side.

But they are a little bit unspecific in regards to what happens from November onward. They just say: "A further frequency is being planned in the Northern Winter schedule, from the end of October 2007".

That sound to me that they would like to fly more often but not have yet the additional rights.

That is unambiguous. "A further frequency" means one additional frequency i.e. from 9x weekly to 10x weekly.

No difference between us here. But I just wonder why they are not more specific at what day etc. they want to add ONE frequency. Therefore I thing they might have issues with the rights.
How many seats would they offer with 10 weekly 773 in comparison to 7 times 747?

10x Weekly 77W = 2780 seats (P-80 ; J-420 ; Y-2280)

7x Weekly 744 = 2625 seats (P-49 ; J-350 ; Y-2191)

Huge increase in Premium offerings.

I thought all SQ 744s have 12 First Class seats. In one week, there should have been 84 in First instead of just 49.

Hence, there is a negligible net reduction in total number of seats in F versus a more significant increase in J class seats.

That's a good move. Demand for C has been increasing at the expense of F as both products have been moving upmarket.

Your question in line one is answered in line two.

KL/MH have a long standing code-share arrangement, MH use KL for pax onward around Europe and KL put their pax on MH for Asia Pacific destinations.
