Hawaiian Awarded Seahawks Charters

Sat Jul 07, 2007 1:00 pm

Just received a memo from our inflight manager that stated Hawaiian has been awarded the contract to fly the Seattle Seahawks to their away games this upcoming season. In addition, HA is still the official airline of the Oakland Raiders and will fly the Raiders to all of their away games as well. It's a good thing that the Seahawks left the AFC West, as that would be awkward flying two teams from the same division to their away games!
Great news for HA, and great news for me! I love working the football charters! Now if we could just get the Bronco's contract.  Smile

So does that mean we'll see HA at BFI or will they depart out of SEA or PAE?

I wonder what will happen to the two 757s Paul Allen has...one of which is used for the Seahawks.

That is great news for HA. When I was still flying with them I heard through the grapevine that other pro-teams had heard such great things about HA from the Raiders and were looking into HA....guess it was true!

Very cool.

Awesome news for HA!

Anyway, what's the protocol for HA operating out of BFI? Does Hawaiian contract out their ground ops? Would it detrimentally affect the schedule for B767 line ops? Just wondering...

With the 4 ex-Delta non-ER 767s, Hawaiian now uses one 767 as a spare...I am guessing this one will be used for the charters.

What if both the Seahawks and Raiders are traveling in the same week?

Keep in mind that not everyone lives and breathes airplane crap, especially Hawaiian airplane crap. Some prefer women over airplanes. So some may not know what planes HA has. It was just a question.

But hey thanks for the info.

There is a company that can handle pretty much anything at BFI. They have handled many sports charters and everything up to an Antonov. I'm blanking on their name, but the flying club that I flew with was located right next door.

I wonder why they can't fly on one of the team owner's private 757s anymore. Do they have enough capacity? I have no idea what type of layout they have.

According to Shannon Dreyer's blog on KOMO, the Mariners had been travelling on one of them, but it
was recently sold, so they are back to a more normal charter operation.

Very unlikely. The 717 does not have the range to fly Hawaii-mainland. They got them out there to begin with by installing temporary, additional fuel tanks. I'm sure someone more familiar with HA can comment to that, but I'd be absolutely positive that a 717 will not be used.

Then I would guess that one of the regularly scheduled flights would be cancelled to free up a plane. When the NFL scheduled is published, allows more than enough time to juggle the planes and routes around.

Nope, they moved several years ago to allow the 49ers the only NFC West that actually plays in the West to have some local teams to play and cutting travel costs, hence the Arizona Cardinals were moved front the NFC East? to the west. So know its the 49ers, Seahawks, Cardinals, and Rams. (the fotgotten diviision of the NL)

Aeroflight can all handle this.

Aeroflight cannot handle an aircraft bigger than a 737, due to the limited ramp space. With their 135 cargo ops taking priority on their ramp, this leaves little room for any thing large. (I used to work the line for them)

Last season, HA did not have any Raidres decals on N592HA, which it wore in seasons prior. With now 2 teams using HA for charters ... will one 763 bear the Raiders logo, and Seahawks on another?

When AS had the Seahawks charter, they had "Seahawk1" with the helmet logo at the nose end of the fuselage stripe.

As far as the NFL in general goes ... it took them decades to re-align the teams in geographically-correct divisions, but it's still messed up ... St Louis (NFC West) is further east than Dallas (NFC East)? The other pro sports leagues got it correct.  Silly

A little OT but Dallas would never switch divisions because of their longstanding rivalries with Philly, the Skins, and the Giants.

Didn't you get the memo? NFL Europe is dead. The Raiders don't exist anymore.  duck

Great news for HA.  bigthumbsup

There are quite a few professional teams that use mainline carriers for their team transport.

I wouldn't be surprised if we fly the Seahawks out of SEA instead of BFI. The planes are already there, and it would be somewhat futile to reposition a plane a distance of about 5 miles. There are plenty of locations at SEA where the Seahawks bus could roll up to the plane for boarding in a private and secure mode.

That said, as a former long-term Seahawk season ticket holder, I'd just like to say GO HAWKS! I can finally stop holding my nose when I fly the Raiders around now.  gasp

We got the pleasure of seeing "Da Raiders" as Al Davis would say, at DFW a few years ago, when the Oakland Raiders came in for a pre-season game. Quite a site to see a beautiful Hawaiian 767 at DFW.

Hopefully we'll see either them or the Seahawks come to DFW very soon.

All we see are a bunch of silver planes.  Sad

Actually my sense of humor was not lacking. I actually think that I have one of the better senses of humor on this site given how many uptight folks there are. But the person to whom I was responding did not use any smilies in his post, and thus it clearly seemed he was serious that they would use a 717.

No, he wasn't. He was being sarcastic, yes he omitted the smilies in his post...he may have forgotten to. Everybody knows the 712 doesn't have the range to do transpac flights, let alone do a charter for an NFL team. Citrus, he was being sarcastic.
