Which is a classic and no two ways about it. I've had 77 flights on DC-9s / MD-80s / MD-90s and my next two flights will be on MD-90s. I've enjoyed every one of them.

BUT...

Is it one of the top seven airliners ever? If so, which other "Boeing" 7-series makes way for the A320 or A300 or Concorde or - dammit - BAe146?!

Who has said that Boeing was implying that? It was a line-up of their commercial jet families (the 720 was a 707 derivative). Why would you say that the 717 was (or wasn't) "one of the top seven airliners ever?"

Because a post which has now been deleted claimed that this line-up represented "the seven best aeroplanes in the world". (See post #83.) It's taking nothing away from Boeing or the 787 or any of their authentic and unquestionable classics to suggest that there may be other "aeroplanes" that might arguably squeeze into the top seven other than those that originate in Seattle.

Had you read the whole thread before posing your question?

He didn't bring it up, someone else did by saying these are the top 7 airliners which is bullcrap. All PM did was say the 717 isn't one of the 'seven top airliners of all time', and I sure as hell agree with him.

That would be Concorde G-BOAG, the 747 is the second LCF, the DC-3 is a DC-2, and yes, that is a B-47E.

Also sitting next to Concorde is RA001, the 747 prototype, the prototype of the 737, the first VC-137, and a AA 727-200

I think it is a bummer that the City of Everett (RA001) is no longer airworthy. It would have been an excellent addition to yesterdays Parade of 7s. The 737 would also have been a great addition...

You would have to be a real moron flag waver to think the 717 is in the top 7 commercial jet aircraft ever produced. PM is usually pretty level-headed, his comments make sense now.

While the 717 is a fine niche aircraft I doubt anyone would put in a top 20 list for best commercial jets ever. BUt, putting together such a list might be fun.

Seeing as it's now Monday, the DL 767, CO 757, AS 737, FX 727, and FL 717 have probably all gone back home and flying regular lines. The RR 747 and the 707 Omega Tanker might hang out a bit longer. The AF 777 I think is a new aircraft being prepped for delivery.
