More MUC News!

Sun Jul 08, 2007 5:03 am

The following airlines have requested slots for new routes at MUC for winter 2007/2008. Hopefully most of that will come true, but I'm sceptical with some.

GF wants to serve BAH daily with an A332!

EI wants to start a daily ORK service with A320.

AB wants to begin MXP service with F100.

LH wants to serve RLG (multiple times?) daily with a CRJ. Spot on Flying-Tiger, and welcome to my RU list!
(Interestingly, OLT still wants to serve RLG)

U2 to restart the BSL route? They also want to serve LYS and EMA!

LT wants to fly charters to RKT with A332.

4U wants to start DTM service.

AP wants to start CRJ900 flights to BRI and PMO.

On the freight side, BA World Cargo has already started a weekly STN-MUC-DEL-HKG service, operated with 747F (don't know the operator).

TK also wants to start a weekly IST service with A310F.

Any questions, corrections, additions and comments are welcome.

As it deserves to be...their airport is top notch, truly amazing - it's my favorite in Europe, maybe the world, as far as being easy to get to, get around, and change planes in. Munich itself is a fantastic city too, and with more and more people visiting Germany each year since reunification, it's only going to get busier!

I have to say that one surprises the heck out of me. Not to say it won't work, I bet it will, it's just an interesting one in my eyes. But my question is, why MUC to BRI and PMO as opposed to MUC to one of their hubs like LIN or FCO? My guess is to tap a niche route for vacationers?

Well, they codeshare with LH and will be (or already are?) a Star Alliance member. So I suppose the want to complement LH's flights, not compete with them. (BTW, LH recently stopped MUC-BRI)

requesting slots doesn't have to mean a thing. in many cases, they are place holders for other routes.

don't wanna bust any bubbles, but this one is not gonna happen. see above for why

routes to RLG have failed miserably in the past, and that won't change soon.

Maybe, but for example, where could GF fly from MUC, if not to BAH? Some of these are good indications.

additions and comments are welcome.

SA started its new MUC service 3 times a week until October. Then it will become daily for one month and after that it will be a 4 weekly service, MUC-JNB to be on day 1357 and JNB-MUC on 1246 only vs the intended daily services.

BBJII, do you happen to know how the return flight is routed? I heard something about BOM...

now that is a very simplistic view of things. of course, in this case, you are right. but obviously, local airlines such as LH and AB have a broader choice of destinations in order disguise the opening of strategic new destinations.

well the ceo and other company officials are going on and on about launching ZRH & PVG this winter and now this surprise comes up...its no secret in the airline industry that GF loses a lot of $$$ on its FRA route and I feel that at MUC the same trend will continue as competing against EK double daily & QR daily flights who have a wider selection of connecting cities via their respective hubs is going to make the BAH-MUC route a loss maker for GF.

GF should not waste its time opening new EU/UK routes and should concentrate on its core markets. The only long haul destination worth experimenting with from BAH is China.
