Last Delta 727 Flight Video

In the spirit of the TWA last 727 flight thread, I thought I'd throw together a little footage of the last Delta 727 flight back in 2003. Sorry about the marginal quality, was taken with my Sony F-707. A bit shaky at times as I was trying to take photos and do video at the same time  Smile .

As I said in the previous thread I will miss the 27's, getting to work with them at DL, UA and FX was truly a pleasure. The only thing I hate is that I missed the DL's last flight out of GSO. I spent a lot of hot summer day working in the pits of the old gal and was certified to ride brakes and start APU's, still have most of the old manuals from UA off the 727. It's hard to believe GSO hardly has any mainline service from DL now, we went from filling 727's up regularly and 757's at furniture market time to now oversold RJ's and 2-3 MD-88's.

Sitting in the back made for some great video too!

BTW, on rotation I had to do a small edit as I was taking photos and set the camera down, that's why there is a 10 second gap or so.

Very nice! I love when aircraft are treated to the water arch!

Great video and thanks for posting. I don't think there will ever be a more beautiful bird in the sky than the ol'widget clad 727.

I remember my last 727 flight. It was on DL in June 2002, TUS-ATL in the old widget colors.

I like how you didn't waste time at cruise, went straight to the landing in ATL, excellent video. Excellent. I have been trying to remember what the interior of those 727's looked like for a while now, thanks for bringing back memories.

I'll agree with you on both if you give me the original Olympic livery on the 727 - I'm talking the almost black cheatline/tail version that didn't have the cheatline swoop into the tail...like below:

My first commercial flight ever was a Delta 727 from Fairbanks-Anchorage-Salt Lake City back in 1989. I was hooked on flying ever since then.

My last was an American 727 from MCI-ORD back in 2000 (?).

Awesome aircraft.... I do miss seeing her around.

Great job Dazed on capturing a sad, yet memorable moment in history. You can tell by the pilot's voice over the PA that he was saddened too. I wish I could go back in time when 727's were still common. It seems so much longer tha 4-5 years ago. Long live this beautiful tri-jet!

My first flight was on a Western Airlines 727 MSP-DEN to see my honey and future wife at U. of Colorado (how that worked with me at U. of MN????). Anyway, the 727 holds special memories for me. Loved the video.

I flew on what was supposed to be the last 727 flight (DFW-ATL) that day. I believe that the GSO leg was added after I bought my ticket. I sat in the very same seat................Best seat in the house.

The TWA video brought tears to my eyes, and even though I've always been more of a Delta fan I was a little disappointed by the lack of "spirit" on the Delta flight. Granted, this was a difficult time for the country and airlines.

I miss the 727's also. Spent a lot of time flying with Delta on the 727. I was lucky enough to be involved with the 727's going to Victorville for reitrmenet. Check out the photos from the last flights at

Ahh, the glory days...back when the old widget ruled over all, and it was some stupid maroon-tipped triangle on the tail. Had 9/11 not happened I'm sure we would have kept them longer- some were still in excellent shape and could have soldiered on longer, so I wish at least.

I'm sure all the 727's are rolling in their graves right now...

Great video! I took a day trip March 9th,2003 ROC-ATL-ROC just to get on a 727 for the last time.I flew on ex-EA N8890Z in 'deltaflot' colors on the return flight. I miss the 727 in daylight here.

Really nice video. I thought you edited it quite well; thought you captured the water cannons especially well. Having said that, I flew the 727 for two years, and I haven't missed it once since it's been gone.

Great video! I really miss those 727's too, they really added some variety to flying... My last 727 flight was on American from TPA-DFW in July of 2001. God Bless.

Another simply amazing bit of video!

Wow! How I miss the 72! Back when I was a grade school kid, we lived in Arden, NC about 3 miles from AVL. At the time, Piedmont flew a mix of 727s and 737-200s into AVL. For some reason, we always took the early morning AVL-CLT flight which always seemed to be a 72.. I used to not be able to sleep the night before I was to fly and it was such a thrilling sight the next morning to be coming down Airport Road, crossing over I-26, and seeing that tail sticking up over the terminal building. It was huge compared to the AVL terminal in those days (no jetways and a single level).

If I remember correctly, I logged 727 trips on TW (my first trip on a 72...and I honestly don't remember it...from PIT-JFK), Piedmont, AA, US (shortly after the Piedmont merger in both old Piedmont colors with the USAir logo and the bare metal US colors), DL, and UA.

My last flight was in Jan. 2001 on DL from ATL-MCI, I had no clue at the time it would be the last time I was on a 72.

Thanks for the great memories!
