NWA 757-300 Engine Change At PDX

Sun Jul 08, 2007 12:21 pm

Aircraft 562 has been at PDX since July 4th. It's parked down at United's cargo ramp. They are replacing the number 1 engine. When I was leaving work tonight (7th). They just started the new engine up for the first time. It was smoking pretty bad.

I don't know where the plane was going to on the 4th, either HNL or MSP. I will try to find out more info. This must be sending a ripple affect throughout NWA's system to have a 753 out of service for this many days.

Result of a bird strike on takeoff. I was on the bus with NW maintenance today  Smile

On a side note, why do they have to park at UA cargo now?

Just the oil-based preservative on the new engine--I'm surprised that you didn't see it "torch" briefly. There are several photos here on Anet of just such a phenomena.
