The Official 787 Rollout Aftermath Thread - Part 2

So the other thread was getting a little unruly and I felt it was time for a fresh one.

The "aftermath" for me, is pure exhaustion. A 48 hour trip across the country really takes it out of you. I'm sun burnt, and physically exhausted. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Being able to be there in person was extraordinary. It was a very strange feeling walking onto the factory floor for the first time. Having spent the last three months staring at it from across the country it felt almost familiar. I'm not an employee of the Boeing company, I'm not even in the aviation business; however, the aftermath for me, is the realization that the assembly might have been fun to follow, but that was merely the gestation of this aircraft. She is now born. Now begins the fun part. Here is where the narrative truly begins. This is the story of how she learns to fly.

I just think it is a BEAUTIFUL plane and can't believe how may orders it has gotten in such a short amount of time hats off to Boeing for this wonderful achievement and Congrats to you IAD787 for being able to get such detailed info of the construction and share it with us and also to Royal King for getting the first picture on he internet

Just think only 110 orders to go until 787

They should be well ahead of the 787 mark by EIS . IF we look at orders and commitments (publically announced) we get a number close to 730 , so 787 by year end is quite likely . What is happening is that many airlines are exerc. options fearing that the US majors will come in and sweep 2-3 years worth of production so they are getting there foot in before the door shuts . As far as orders before EIS go , with orders yet to be placed by UA,AA,DL and fleet replacement choices by LH , BA , AF/KLM and huge order to be decided by EK 1000 orders before EIS cannot be ruled out.

Hey IAD787 when can we expect updates on system instalation etc !!

I think Boeing did an excellent job with the ceremony, especially playing up the "global" aspect of it, emphasizing the unique advantages of the airliner, and so forth. Great job. I am REALLY looking forward on taking a ride in one of these, too bad Japan gets them first!

I asked the question in post #216 about Former Boeing Executive Alan Mulally, now at Ford. Did he get invited to go to the 787 roll out? Did he even attend if he even got an invitation?

Beautiful cockpit. And beautiful plane. Nice job Boeing. It looks like a large version of the E-Jets cockpit. very nice

The C/N (or LN) would be 1, but the MSN is not know...

Many of the employees are quire grumpy about it because much of the work that had traditionally been done in house has been outsourced.

I bow down to boeing! This is truly an awesome looking aircraft, all though the tail looks a bit more square than in the concept pictures. Now i can't wait to see if it really does perform in efficiency as expected.

Anybody got a date for the 787 maiden flight?

Boyo Boy... Isn't she an ugly aircraft!

The nose on that plane just looks wrong, did something go wrong at the design stage, to get a nose like that? It looks like it used the same Cosmetic Surgeon as Wacko Jacko (AKA Michael Jackson) used for his recent nose job!

It reminds me of an Embraer 190 on steroids!

On a serious note and looks aside, Im sure it will be a great aircraft! Looking forward to my first trip on it with First Choice Airways when they arrive with the airline in late 2008.

I love it, but definitely agree to a large degree. The tailcone, right down to the nose, looks like an ERJ190. Only a few differences here and there (visually, of course).

I don't think it's ugly though...and I'm sure there must be some reason they're making these with similarly shaped fuselage. It's just different and will take some getting used to. I can't get enough of seeing this beauty, and look forward to the coming months!! Way to go Boeing!
