New Image For ANA

Fri Aug 11, 2000 2:32 am

The newspage on airlinersonline.com has reported that All Nippon Airways has hired the brand identity firm of Interbrand, Newell, and Sorrell to design a new image for ANA. These are the same people who did the "World Image" schemes for British Airways. I cannot find anymore info on the INS (ha!) or ANA sites, so I do not know how airlinersonline.com got its source. Does anyone know anything else about it? I personally think that the ANA livery is fine, but I am not opposed to it being changed.

It would be very unusual if ANA or the agency would publish something about a intended re-design in the early stages of work.
I´ll keep my eyes open and will check the international advertising/design-press the next days or weeks if Interbrand has won a pitch against other specialised agencies like Landor recently.

Personally I´m of the same opinion as you. I think ANA´s CD and livery is allright but still leaves room for improvements. At least I hope they will have a colourful paint-scheme in the future like the current one is, too. And don´t discover that plain white with a little bit of blue is the "best" colour for airplanes...

Rumour has it the scheme will consist of various sushi and sashimi, stylized for our viewing pleasure. To break with the common all-white fuselages of today, Newell and Sorrell have developed a special hue of green they have dubbed 'Wasabi Monster'. Will someone please pass the Tekka Maki?

The least important of ANA's problems is (exterior) image. Having travelled by ANA from London to Osaka, return Narita - London I would think their problems are related to in-flight services.
Not too friendly cabin crew, not to great food... I prefer JAL or BA any day....

My ANA flight within Japan from NRT-NGO was just fine in terms of inflight service. The crew was friendly and when they saw my sister who is 10 they immediately offered her a Pokemon inflatable toy (which she loved).

Yes I have, but my train smelled like a gym floor mat. The entire Japanese train system is the best I have ever used, though.

i really do not love the current scheme but i do not mind it either, i could care less if it got changed but i hope it is not a butt-ugly scheme like most of the new ones lately

Oh yeah, food is a real winner for a livery.

So ANA didn't hire Landor... could it be because Landor created the current JAL corporate identity? Just kidding!

I wonder if the public don't see the ANA font (both English and Japanese) as contemporary enough. No matter if it's true or not, that's probably what some of the peeps at the airline argued, resulting in the decision.

Image can do wonders (more so if some actual improvements follow) for the company. There was a period in time when Japanese companies adopted some very classy designs, but there haven't been as many good designs now. Check out the new Pioneer logo, for example.
