RJ Celebrates 30 Years Of Service To JFK

Fri Jul 13, 2007 5:44 pm

On July 11, 1977, Alia, as Royal Jordanian was called at the time, operated a Boeing 747 to New York, the first time Jordanians and Arab residents were able to fly nonstop from the Middle East to the United Sates.

Alia operated three 747-200 combis JY-AFA, JY-AFB and JY-AFS

Congratulations to RJ

Its interesting to note it was the first carrier from any Arabic speaking country to serve US nonstop.

Throughout the 80's and early 90's i remember many of my cousins used to fly from KHI to JFK via AMM on Alia (as everyone called it back then).Tristars and B747-200's were the planes in those days for the flights. They all loved flying RJ.

Sadly RJ does'nt serve KHI anymore, they left us about 2 years ago i believe it was a A320 service when the route was axed.

Hi RJAF,

Hope all is well!

I remember flying on one of their 747's to JFK. I also remember that at times, they made an intermediate stop in either Vienna or Amsterdam. I believe that when the L1011's took over, the stop was at AMS and i remember AMS to look like an RJ hub full of L1011's coming and going,

After AMS it was SNN with the A310's and now its non-stop with the A342's!

Congrats to one of the best airlines in the world!

I remember this flight used to go via DXB and they even hired pakistani-origin cabin crew for this flight.

Why did they axe it? and why did they axe KUL? Jordan has a large population of Malaysians!
