AA's MIA-LRM Service

What's up with AA's MIA-LRM service?
If AA is so quick to drop a route that doesn't perform well, why does AA keep La Romana service out of MIA?
This flt hasn't operated daily in a long time. Last Christmas season, IIRC, the flt operated 5x a week. Currently, for this summer, it is operating 3x week. It operates with very poor load factors.
As an example, while all destinations are running from near capacity to completely full in the height of summer, the La Romana flt departed with a load factor of only in the 70's this past Sunday, supposedly the busiest travel day o fthe week.
The flight is never full and the very few times I have seen it run full was only when SDQ (just down the road) is completely sold out or there is severe off-sched ops.
I've been told many times it is because one of the AA big-wigs has a home there.
Why would AA keep such route when AA is cutting and saving in every area they can do so? Bigger routes have been cut from AA's schedule. It can't be because of cargo, there isn't really much in LRM except for a golf course and a nice hotel.

I flew it back in May. I dont know for sure, but this seems like a subsidized service strictly for Casa De Campo. The airport is basically a private strip built for the resort. So, I would guess that there is very very little traffic on this route not tied to Casa De Campo, so i'd imagine as long as the checks keep coming in from the DR to AA, this route will prob stay afloat.

Loads are light, but yields are top notch. There isn't enough demand do to this daily, as AA has learned, but the route is profitable for AA. AA has no reason to cut a profitable route.

I just find it a little difficult seeing it as a moneymaker considering the fares are similar to the SDQ fares and the flight is never/rarely full. I wonder if we get some kind of subsidy, privileges or something in order to operate there. Most paxs go on packages...and the golf clubs.
Then again, I'm not saying I'd like to see the route dropped, quite the contrary. I hope it stays for a long time.

Trust me, it is profitable. It is a lot cheaper to operate a 738 than an A300.
