Heathrow will receive A388s first with SIA317/322 but this is not expected until January 2008 at the earliest.

Schedule has B744 at the moment.

SQ usually operates the following rotational schedule

SQ231 SIN 00:30 SYD 09:55 ------ > SQ222 SYD 15:40 SIN 21:55
SQ219 SIN 09:30 SYD 18:55 ----- > SQ220 SYD 08:05 SIN 14:20

SQ221 SIN 20:30 SYD 05:55 +1Day ------ > SQ232 SYD 11:30 SIN 17:45

I'm booked on SQ232 on 6 November SYD-SIN. I wonder what my chances are of flying on the A380??? I'll be doubly excited if it does turn out to be the A380 because I'm flying J class  Smile Is there any official word yet from SQ when regular scheduled flights will start for the 380?? Their online schedules still show 744 for all SYD-SIN flights into early 2008.

Looking at all the options in March 08, all flights showing as 747-400 on SQ website. Shame they haven't changed it yet!

Nobody (except some SIA insiders) knows when the inaugural Singapore-Sydney A380 flight will be.

I have no idea if the designated SIA pilots/captains have yet gone to TLS/Blagnac to train on the A380 simulator (unless they have their own A380 sim in Singapore which I doubt) and fly the aircraft.
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde

Currently aircraft rotations are as follows:
SQ 219 / SQ 220
SQ 221 / SQ 232
SQ 231 / SQ 222

New rotations
SQ219 / SQ232 arrive SYD 2015, depart 1245

SQ221 / SQ220 arrive 710, depart 850

SQ231 / SQ222 arrive 1145, depart 1655

Can I ask how you know this? SQ220 is the least popular SYD-SIN flight. I would have thought it equally likely that the A380 would sit around SYD and operate SQ222 later in the day.

this is what is currently being planned, but could well change.
The reason it is being put on SQ221/220 is to offer an immediate turnaround, and have the aircraft back at base for 6 hours in the laucnh phase.

Also, don't forget it will operate during the Christmas holiday season (no problems filling it), as well as peak season for Australia to India travel (Nov to Feb).

Thinking through it I think this makes sense.

Comments:
* If the first delivery is August, as suggested in another thread, then we will be seeing this rotation perhaps from Sep. Sep-Nov is a pretty quiet time (except for the school hols boost for 2 weeks late Sep). By the holiday-rush surely SQ will have some more A380s and can operate a more efficient SYD-SIN-LHR-SYD schedule.

* SQ232 is the "India Special" as it connects with the BOM/DEL/MAA flights, and likely the others (DAC, CCU, BLR, ATQ, AMD, HYD). The check-in lines for SQ232 are always chocka-block (now that's an Aussie term) full of Indians.

* On the flip side I guess during the first few months they might get a few folks taking the earlier flight for the sake of the A380 - for the rarity and better premium seats. I can imagine a few travel agents and res agents saying "do you want to go on the A380 super-jumbo which leaves a few hours earlier blah (or la, ex SIN).

That's rather odd, I've been on SQ232 quite a few times and wouldn't call it the "India Special", for any of the times I've flown on it. It's always been a broad mixture of Aussies, Europeans and Asians, with maybe a handfull of Indians, certainly not chokka-block full of them...  wink
