Virgin America First Class Vs United P.S.

Fri Jul 20, 2007 1:48 pm

I fly LAX-JFK a lot and really like United p.s. biz or first. Virgin America's product looks pretty good and costs less money! But the first class seats looks like UA's business class seats. Not lie flat.

I know Virgin is going to sell food in economy class. What about first class? With they have "white linen" service as like in UA? Or are you just paying for the bigger, cushier, massaging seat? I went to the Virgin website and other than showing the seat, it didn't really go in to details about actual service in First class.

From what I have seen in the pictures and what I have experienced flying in both first and business on the UA P.S.airplanes, I don't think that there will be much of a comparison. The VA seats look much like standard business class seats. The seat pitch in their "first class" is about the same as the P.S business class. I have no idea if they are going to charge for food in first class, but I would be very surprised if they did. When it all comes down to it, I guess you get what you pay for, especially with the P.S. service.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Below listed are the responses to the same questions and answers that I offered yesterday in the following thread:
Virgin America - Takes Off August 8th (by Laxintl Jul 19 2007 in Civil Aviation)

The website is non-discript when it comes to meal options offered onboard

=The website from all appearances is glossy, with a few bits of information here and there. I cant help but feel the website is a work in progress. (I hope it is).

~Response from the airline is that meals are ordered from each seat in Economy at a surcharge. In First Class meals are ordered from a menu and are free of charge.

The First Class information talks mainly about the seat, their is no mention of meals or lounge

=Virgin America is trying to compete with United Airlines and American Airlines in the Trans-Con market they will need to offer hot meal options and a full menu on the Trans-Con services.

~Response from the airline is that meals are free of charge in First Class. Meals are ordered from a Printed Menu, and will be served in courses. Appetizers are going to be served Tapas style.

=Virgin America is trying to compete with United Airlines and American Airlines in the Trans-Con market they will need to offer full First Class lounges as it is part of the premium service experience.

~Response from the airline is that they are looking at sharing airline lounges at JFK and SFO but do not have a lounge of their own at JFK, SFO, LAX, LAS, IAD. They are looking into it, but do not for see it for some time to come.

I hope some of the above information is of use to everyone!
