When did Egyptair retire its last B 747? They were still operating some back in 2003

Both 747-366Combis were sold in October 2005 but remain stored at Cairo (at least they were seen there recently). I´ve seen an active Egyptair 747 last time in 2004, but I think that it was reported that the two aircraft were flown as backup aircraft until 2005. Both aircraft were built in 1988, so they have some life left in them.

Why did they retire them? Excess capacity?

I've seen the two 747s at CAI during my trip to Egypt last week: both aircraft remain stored at CAI. Doubt the Egyptian weather is doing them much good...

The other types in the EgyptAir fleet proved to be of better use on it's flights than the 747: better capacity/range ratio than the 747.
