Plane Spotting In Cancun

Mon Jul 23, 2007 11:50 pm

Me and the family will be in Cancun next week and we'll be staying at the Moon Palace. This is my our first trip to Cancun and it appears the Moon Palace is very close to MMUN. So I have a couple of questions.

1. Is this a good hotel for plane spotting?
2. Will I encounter any problems with airport security or customs if I bring along a scanner?

You're in Cancun... go snorkeling at Xel Ha, go see Chichen Itza and Tulum!

I love spotting, but there's plenty of time for spotting when you get home, the planes aren't going away.  Smile

Believe me mate, this Hotel is absolutely fantastic!!!!
You might just forget about the aircraft spotting!
Anyway, the aircraft pass to the left of the hotel,as you look out to the sea.
Have a great holiday,i stopped here 4 years ago,and you won't want to go home.

Moon Palace has a fantastic pool. The beach isn't as nice as the Zona Hotelera beaches though.

Spotting isn't great from the Moon Palace - you have a better shot from the Zona Hotelera as most captains will oblige their customers with a slow flyby of it after takeoff.

And for those who think I will be doing nothing but watching planes....we are going to Chichen Itza, we are going snorkeling and I might even get in a round of golf.

Besides, I live in Kansas City so I am looking forwrard something other than our standard fare of SWA 737s, AA Mad Dogs, YX 717s and other assorted domestic flights.

FlyingJHawk:
Listen to what the others above have stated. Go out to the beach, meet some girls, drink margaritias and have a good time.
If you do insist on spotting in Cancun, make sure you go when Cubana comes in and out with their IL-62 or Yak-42D.
They have a daily arrival time of 1:20PM and depart at 2:20PM.
Sometimes they use leased A320s which is very boring to see as you can see those at any airport.

I am sure my wife might have an issue with the meeting girls part. But the beach, the pools, and the drinks are firmly on the schedule. And thanks for the Cubana tip....I will be watching out for that one.

:o Oooops, sorry about that.  Embarrassment

Didn't know you were married.
I wish I knew what days of the week they use each aircraft type. It varies day by day.

That's at the far end of the Zona Hotelera, past downtown.

And from what I understand it's known as a swingers club.

Cancun centre is north of the airport,The Moon Palace is south of the airport.
Cancun from Moon palace is approx. 40 mins, whilst airport is half way between the two.
