DEN To IAD Problems Today

Tue Jul 24, 2007 10:46 am

The flights from DEN to IAD were all messed up today... does anyone know why? Is this an isolated set of incidents, or does it reflect the general state of United's equipment? I was booked on flight 316 that was cancelled, and I probably won't make it to Dulles until 5am tomorrow.

Here are the direct flights for the rest of the day on 23 July

Flight 200
Scheduled: 6:55 PM
Actual: 9:01 PM
Reason: --

United Flight 568
Scheduled: 11:43 PM
Actual: 12:49 AM
Reason: --

I didn't get in until after 6am today, when I was originally scheduled to arrive at 5pm the day before. 7 out of 10 direct flights from DEN to IAD were delayed by more than 1/2 hour or were cancelled yesterday.

Fortunately for those traveling today, no delays or cancellations. I guess I picked the wrong day to travel!

Just before I logged on to the website, I made my reservation for IAD-DEN-IAD in one day, for work, a week from tomorrow
I hope all goes well and that today was only a fluke. Sorry to hear about it. .

I noticed an unusually high number of cancellations of flights to Denver today too. The MCI-DEN route had two cancellations. The common theme I noticed with most of them is that there were flights operated by 757's. There were some 737 cancellations, but most were 757.

I noticed Northwest had 2 cancellations for DTW-DEN today as well.

Thankfully my DEN-AUS flight today was runnin' right on time for a change.  Smile

Wow, that photo says it all. I was wondering with the flights as full as they are right now how United could ever lose money. Now I guess I know!

Are these problems due to aging equipment, insufficient staff, weather (I don't think there were major weather probs yesterday except at SFO), or a combination?

It could be end of the month pilot shortages. Some months it's Airbus pilots. Looks like this month it's 757 pilots. If they're timing out already, it's going to be a rough week for United.

Doesn't to me. I rarely have problems with United unless their is weather.

I flew JetBlue for the first time this past weekend ORD-JFK-ORD. My first flight was cancelled due to weather so I was rebooked the next morning. My flight on Sunday was delayed first because we didn't have a plane, and then because we didn't have a crew. The gate agent was rude and had no information. Although I was previously very excited about flying JetBlue, I won't go out of my way to fly them again. I did like the PTV and legroom though.

That photo says nothing. May 29, what year? May 29, 2007 had weather problems in DEN which could explain that picture.

Aging aircraft is an issue for United...

Considering that photo is actually taken in ORD, it really doesn't pertain to this thread whatsoever.

I am booked on the 3:31p flight later this week - I was not impressed with its 50% on time status.

Flying in or out of DEN can be frustrating on UA as DEN is typically OK, yet all the UA flights are delayed because the aircraft go thru ORD or IAD at some point. ie it would be nice if the planes flew DEN-MCO-DEN-MCO instead of DEN-ORD-IAD-MCO-DEN

That photo was taken May 29, 2006. If you use your computer calendar, that was the last time it fell on a Monday.

I would suspect that SFO (ATC flow control whenever there is a single cloud in the sky), ORD (volume, volume, volume) and any flight originating in the northeast are the culprits for most of United's delays.

I wasn't talking about the time frame. i was talking about the city it was taken in as opposed to the one that this thread is about.
