Delta Boarding Music "Glamorous"

Tue Jul 24, 2007 1:17 pm

When did Delta start using Fergie's Glamorous during boarding and deboarding? It was playing during my flight today from ATL to MIA (Delta 1067).

Delta has applied boarding music to most flights. The -88s may be an exception.

Nice, I know they were trying systemwide (mainline) but haven't been on an -88 in a while. My last flights 20 flights this year on DL have all been 757s and 738s.

I like it when airlines play real music. And not the tweedle dumb ping pong esque music (sorry, I can't think of a more intelligent way to describe it, its too early in the morning!) that most airlines play. For example, NeosAir - they have good music on board  Smile

Agree! I prefer to have something real playing. It makes it seem more relaxed and lulls the maddening passengers. I remember flying on a BY (TOM) B738 a couple of years back and they played music videos on boarding. It was 7.00am but we had J.Lo and her song "get right" blaring out. It really got me in holiday mood and everytime I hear it now it brings back that memory.

AIRLINES SHOULD PLAY MUSIC MORE, ESPECIALLY THE LOCO's. IT WILL SUBDUE THE PUNTERS.

I personally would love to hear Adiemus again! Now that was wonderful music by which to stow your overhead luggage.

Seriously, I thought that was one of the great moves by DL of that era (somewhere in the 90s I think it was) and I still love listening to that cd.

I asked the name of the performer and cd the first time I hear it while on hold to change a reservation. I remember the DL agent knew right away and said she couldn't believe the number of times she had been asked for the information. I also recall walking into Tower Records and asking for the "Delta Hold Music" cd and they knew exactly which one I meant!

(Time for my medication and bedtime now. Where did I put that cd...)

In the current rotation they have a dance remix of the Six Feet Under theme. I loved the show, but I find that choice pretty bizarre.

i know Rhapsody in Blue by heart for as long as I have held for United to pick up the phone recently.

Whats funny,is that my brother used to practice that piece relentlessly on the piano in high school and would always goof up at the same place and i still anticipate that "burp" to this day!

I worked for TWA and we played boarding music videos on the drop down flat screens on the 757. One day Madonna's "Rain" video was playing and a passenger came up to the first class galley and wanted to know who was in charge because he didnt want his family to watch the w%0(# that we were exposing them to. I almost started laughing because I thought he was joking. I think "Rain" is a beautiful song (and video.) Well by the time he was through with his red faced rant the video was over and "I believe I can fly" had come on...problem solved...LOL

I think it's better if an airline has a fairly wide range of music for boarding, phone holds, etc. "Rhapsody in Blue" is a beautiful piece, and I certainly think of United when I hear it...but if I have to hear it several times in succession it loses its allure. And when I was in Australia in 2003 I got to the point where I thought that if I had to hear "Spirit of Australia" over and over and OVER one more bloody time I was going to do something that'd put me on the evening news. (But at least you can get a good cup of tea on Qantas, so I forgive them.  silly  )

In the mid-80s, AA used an instrumental version of Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes" as the boarding music on their DC-10s. Whenever I hear the song now, I turn it up because it brings back so many happy memories  Smile

I think they should play the original version. Imagine customer's response when getting on a plane and hearing "If you ain't got no money, take your broke *ss home"!!!  Big grin  Big grin Might scare off some of the less desirable customers....just kidding of course.

I'll agree though that Adiemus still wins out as the best boarding music.

Just go onto iTunes, Musicmatch, or any similar service, and do a search for "Adiemus," or "Karl Jenkins."

As a side note, not only did Karl do the famous Adiemus, but he also made the famous Palladio used by the Debeers company.

I've been on Delta MD-88's with the boarding music, too. The weird thing is that the boarding music doesn't have the same annoying high-pitched hum that the MD-88 PA system has.

I wish Delta would still play RHCP... It seemed every time I walked on to an -88 a RHCP song would always be playing.

A bunch of the MD-88 flights I've been on, the PA announcements were made from the aft galley, and as such you'd have more noise back there due to engines, apu, etc ...

Those aren't exactly Grammy Award caliber microphones, after all ...

All of our planes have the capability to play the boarding music, some A lines choose not to. There is a new summer lineup of songs that is being shuffled thru the system...should be complete soon.

Funny, I wish Continental Express would STOP playing music or at least change the dam CD!!! I’m so sick of hearing “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” and “Wake up Little Susie”. They have been playing the same old crap for over 6 months. I had 8 CO Express flights in 32 hours and I swear I was about to go insane. I don’t know how the F/A listen to that crap day in and out. Everything is a blur except for “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” …aggggg I can’t stand that song!!!
Worked Hard. Flew Right. Farewell, Continental. Thanks for the memories.

I'll second that. In fact, a couple of songs seem appropriate for a travel themed playlist. All Around the World and Roadtrippin'. Oh, and Aeroplane. Though, I don't think many people even know One Hot Minute is a RHCP record.

Just another thing from song that deserves to be fleet wide. Elevator music gets kinda boring quickly ya know.

I always thought it was basically up to the crew to put on any of the channels they wanted over the pa for boarding. On CO sometimes you hear the classical channel, sometimes the "hit" music channel, and sometimes easy listening etc.
The best boarding scenario I ever saw was a couple years ago when they would play some sort of Candid Camera type show on the screens while people were boarding. It got everyone in a good mood, and by the time the door closed everyone was practically laughing out load. Never understood why they stopped doing this.

There was one song that was pretty funny on a flight out of Atlanta in March it kind of sounded like Barry White.

Does anyone know which song im talking about?

While the crew always enjoys pop hits as a customer having something crappy like the old elevator music of the 70's is the best thing to have playing...softly.

Music that we all listen to helps get us upbeat and "going" which is not what I want from 200 pax crammed into a big metal tube. I want them sleepy and mellow....  Smile

On the 777 they usually play some classical string music and I believe I have heard Flower Duet played too, although I may have imagined that. Most 737 crews don't go for the boarding music as I believe it hasn't been changed in quite a while, and it is best described as soothing, if rather bland, elevator music. I am told they are planning to change it soon though.

Not sure about the rest of the fleet.

On the 772, 763, 752 and 738 flight attendants can either play "Earthscapes" (http://www.amazon.com/Earthscapes/dp/6303314767) which involves "soothing" music and nature images on the screens. Flight attendants can also just pick one of the regular audio channels to play as boarding music.

That is true- after certain overexposure, the tune begins to have a reverse effect. It produces a negative feeling (especially when associated with long wait times on the phone).

The Delta boarding music is selected internally, though I know that marketing/in-flight have some say over what to play. The playlist is really eclectic these days, which I like a lot. I know that there has to be a "music committee" someplace at ATG...  Yeah sure

I've written to in-flight and corporate marketing a number of times to suggest Brian Eno's "Music for Airports" as a choice...I've always thought that album captured the serenity of flying at 40K feet over the planet.....and subdued fears of flying too....

The boarding music is available for the in-flight to use on all mainline metal (including the Mad Dogs)....

Cheers.

Ah, the joys of nerve deafness: In 53 flights with five different airlines I have never once noticed any music at all playing while I boarded.  indifferent

I'll have to make a point to listen out for it on my next flight.  scratchchin
