Not new. I've mentioned this previously in a couple post.

First plane enters conversion in September.

That would be cool, but I think that with how many transcons that they have with the 757's that it would go a long way to help their fuel bill.

Did they happen to say how many would be equipped?

Close to 1/3...29/97

Makes sense...the benefits stop outweighing the cost of installation as the segment length declines. Looking forward to seeing the first one!

Has UA stated this explicitly? Any reasons? The success of CO with Atlantic 752's suggests that all US majors could benefit.
I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

I wonder if they'll eventually do some 767's also. Or even 737's.

I dont think you will see any of UA 737 fleet with winglets due to the fact that amny of those 733 and 735 are getting rather old. However it would not surprise me to see some of there 767 fleet get wing lets.

Yes, including previous conference call Q&A.

Various, including aircraft range/performance from IAD.

Ask AA. They seem to have not found success trying to run 757s to Europe.

UA's Atlantic operations focus is much more "big pipe" approach of using large equipment such as 777 and 744 and funneling high volume of traffic into a few destinations. CO uses a very different, lower volume and scattered approach.

Besides a potential DEN-LHR and maybe a single new destination in the coming year or so, I dont see UA changing things. Afterall Atlantic flying is profitable for UA the way is now structured.

UA's hub at IAD is a little bit too far from Europe. They could potentially use some PS jets to go IAD-Ireland, but UA does not tend to do oddball, one-off operations like that.

How is that? Are UA's 757s that much worse than CO's? A p.s.-style 757, perhaps with better F seats, would be great on routes like IAD - UK. IAD adds less than 200nm to a flight to Europe vs. EWR.

What about the possibility of ORD to Ireland & northern UK (~3200nm: ORD-GLA, ORD-DUB, etc.)

Yes, quite significantly. CO max take off weight are 255,000lbs, UAs 240,000lbs.

In addition add the fact that only 16 of UA's near 100 B757s are ETOPS, and fully commited to Hawaii flying.

Is this a real difference or one where UA has its aircraft certified at a lower MGTOW for cost reasons?

They both have the RB211-535E4B's rated at 43,000 + lbs of thrust. That's how they have the 255,000lbs MTOW versions

I don't have manuals, sorry, but i did find these little tid bits....(not sure if the number of PW2040 frames listed below is correct, but UA definitely has PW2040's on at lest some of their 757's.
"United operates 50 PW2040 powered frames and 47 2037 frames.

United B757-222 with PW2040 are certified for 255k, 550lbs shy of the max for the 757, while the PW2037s have MTOW of 240,000lbs."

Actually Gigneil, it really is. I am looking at the UA 757/767 flight manual, an airplane that I was actually flying for them until about 8 months ago, and it very clearly states that the only engine on a UA 757 (regular and ER) is the PW 2037 @37.5 K. I'm not sure what source you are using, but it is very wrong.

I stand corrected. You guys undoubtedly know more about that then I do. I'm relatively new to the aviation world  Smile
For future reference, how do I obtain information regarding airline fleets that isn't shown on 'fleet specifications' pages on an airlines website??
