Travel: The Way It Benefits You And Others.

Thu Jul 26, 2007 10:41 pm

Hi all:

I have always been told and very strongly beleived in the fact that there is no better education than travel. And by travel i mean to travel around the world to different countries, experiencing different cultures and people. IMHO it makes a person so much more open/broad minded and so much more accepting towards other people of other races and other backgrounds.

I think the worst problem with people can be the lack of travel, ofcourse, lots and lots of people cannot afford air travel, but then again there are lots of people who can and still dont use that facility.

It may not only be for business, but even for say holidays and short trips. I think the whole world would be full of much better and wiser people if people travelled more. I know for a fact, its the travel i have had in my life that has made me as open minded as i am and has given me the ability to be myself no matter where i am in the world. It also gives me a feeling of bravery, and gives me the advantage to interact with people from Brazil, the USA, the UK, France, Australia, etc ,etc ,etc with confidence.

Of course, this is all related to aviation in general because without that it wouldnt be possible to travel as quickly as it is possible today.

What i want to ask you (as my subject says) how does travel benefit or how has it benefitted you and what advice would you give young people out there about travel and its importance.

Maybe a bit vague topic, but still an interesting topic nonetheless.

regards from India  Smile

My travels abroad, especially to the MIddle East has kept me from developing the same prejudices that many in my home area have developed from media bombardment and lack of exposure to different people,.,.The more I travel the more I realize people are pretty much the same , trying to have a good life!

When I was a child , travelling abroad was quite exotic and only for the rich (or as in my case, the family across the street was a TWA pilots family!)

but now everybody can go !
More Americans should venture further than just Europe!

Thats is so true, peopel all ove rthe world, whether black white brown yellow are pretty much the same. And its incredible how shockingly similar everyone is the moment you start to sit and drink a chilled beer together! Then you can be a group with indians, italians, germans, etc etc all sitting and drinking beer haha... you know, its amazing what a uniting factor beer is!

Overall I agree with the thread starters sentiments. I think everyone should try if they can to travel to another country whose language, culture etc. are very different. It definately does help you appreciate the great spectrum of humanity.

However, too many times, especially during my uni years I have met people who think that just because they have been to a whole bunch of foreign countries that they are somehow now superior and more intellectually developed than those who have not travelled. This attitude also disgusts me personally. And this is coming from someone who has been fortunate enough to have a fair bit of international travel under his belt.

Foreign travel is wonderful but it doesn't guarantee an enlightened traveller!!
