MAXjet In Preliminary Discussions With A & B

Fri Jul 27, 2007 4:15 am

Quote:
The company leases five Boeing (nyse: BA - news - people ) 767s and is in the market to lease more planes, Stockbridge said. It has held preliminary discussions with Boeing and Airbus about buying more modern planes, but probably wouldn't look to place an order for another three years or so.

If I should guess: B787-800/900 and A350-800XWB are the conteners here, I don´t think that MAXjet will go for new B767s or the A330-200. Still, any order seems to be far away.

Placing my money on the A330-200...

MaxJet needs new equipment and they need it fast. They need an aircraft that can fly routes such as LAX-STN, SEA-PVG, and so forth. They cannot wait 3-5 years for something. They need something now, at current the 767-200 are going mechanical left and right, as was the case a few weeks ago when the Max Jet system came to a halt.

I couldnt agree with you more. I'd love to see MY colors on an A332. Isnt Airbus though trying to load off some A340s? MY loves a discount, maybe MY would go for that if the price is right?

Yes, and thankfully we are going to see US Airways as the first US based operator of an A340.. I would not rule out the A340 either. MaxJet is getting ready for a large expansion. I have recieved word that South America is on the radar as well as more than just Shanghai in Asia.

MY should be looking at an aircraft that will make them a profit in the long run. There is no need to buy an aircraft that has been 'discounted' only to have low loads and high operating costs.

Very much true. Although I do see them (In my mind) sticking with a Boeing product. If 787 is too far away, I just see them updating the 767's with, well, 767's.

Any idea from where? Miami or NYC? No other markets would really be able to fill a widebody, all-business jet to South America. Maybe Maxjet will try to take advantage of the new US-Argentina slots, but they are shut-out from Brazil.

What I have heard, and I give it the credit of ten cents is that they are negotiations with a large casino conglomerate in Las Vegas for service to South America-the flights would be flown under contract, with additional seats sold to the general public. This would be along the lines of the AA RDU-LGW/LHR service. Additionally if and when Brasil gets off of their rear end and makes a sensible decision to open more frequencies to US airlines they "may" be looking at service from MIA-GRU(all Business Class), and MIA-EZE(all Business Class). This would fit into a few other things that I have heard about expanded Stansted service from the United States including SJC, MIA, ORD.

With the recent filing to serve LAX-SEA-PVG it can be deduced that MaxJet is thinking outside of the box to markets that warrant an all business class service such as LAX-STN, LAS-STN, IAD-STN, and JFK-STN. As far as Asian expansion I believe they have already received a green light for service from Spring of next year ex London to a number of points in Asia, Middle East, and Africa. The top markets I have heard of are Dubai, Delhi, Bombay, and Macau. Of course Macau would be the most interesting as the market is booming and their definitely is a lack of service from Europe with the departure of TAP from the Macau market.

I've been hearing the same chatter, though of course I'm rooting for additional JFK service (I've heard JFK-TLV). Now that Silverjet isnt starting their 2nd daily, I wonder if that changes things for MY.

The A350 seems like it would bee too big since it is an all business class airline. The 787-8/9 seem like the largest aircraft they would need but both those will not be available for a while so maybe we will see some used 767-300(maybe ER's) or some new 767 orders if boeing agrees. An A340 doesn't seem like a good idea due to its operating costs and the fact that it is an old airplane i think Maxjet needs to look into the future, who knows maybe we will see some older 777-200s (they would still be a little large though) but if they want a quick patch before the 787 would arrive i would see getting some used 767-300's or A330's (they would probably choose the 767 based on fleet commanality)

I think they'll go with leases on 767's until they can get 787s.

What's the 767? Is it suddenly brand new and cutting edge technology which I have somehow missed?

But they are making new ones still (i know the A340 is still being made but they are probably too big) but the technology in the A340 always sounds older than the 767

I guess that means the 773ER is out of the question (I'm just a 777 fan  biggrin  ). Whatever Maxjet does, I hope they learn to stick with 1 fleet type for their long-term plans. If they decide to start buying a/c instead of just leasing, that would benefit them not having to train on different types and getting parts for more than 1 type. Having said that, I could see them going with the B767 (why not, if they're still making them?). They could then eventually transition into newer a/c they own and away from the leased.

Their 762ER's have just as much range as the 332, particularly in the layout they have their jets in. Less seats=less passengers=more payload=more fuel=more range. No doubt they need some new planes, but can't they stick to what they've got and get some new 762ER's to hold them off til they get some 787's or 358XWBs??

Who would they get the new 767-200ER from???

MaxJet cannot wait another 5-6 years for a replacement. The planes they have now have mechanicals left and right..

Even though the 767 was introduced a good 10 years before the A340?

Can't see how 767 has newer technology than the A340s considering the gap between these two aircraft families being flown for the first time (exception would be the 767-400s?). Also can someone tell me whether A340s use the Airbus fly-by-wire technology whilst 767s do not?

What about some A342s?
I'd have thought they'd be the perfect size, and would be a good choice until they can be replaced by 787s or something..........

I mean new-build A342s. I know they are out of production at the moment but it would be just like building another A343, surely?
And A332s aren't available until 2010 at the least.

They come from the same assembly line, so there's no advantage regarding availability. Plus it's more expensive, yet resale values will be lower.
If you ask me, no good deal. Unfortunately!  Sad

They are keeping it open for that reason and because there are still some orders for airlines that need to be filled so i think they could get some newer 767's if they wanted
